🌲 Florest — Realistic Forests, Terrain & Ground (Worldgen Mod)
Florest reimagines the overworld's forests, forest floor and ground materials to look natural and alive. Layered canopies, fallen logs, boulders and graded soil replace vanilla's flat green carpet — all without a single line of game code. Pure datapack, no dependencies, no config needed. Just install and generate a new world.

🌳 Reimagined Forests :
Vanilla forests are one tree tall. Florest builds them in layers — emergent oaks, birches, spruces, dark oaks and jungle trees that stand clearly above the canopy around them, rare giant branching oaks as landmarks, and stunted sub-canopy trees filling the layer vanilla leaves empty.
🪵 Deadwood :
The biggest thing missing from vanilla woodland. Fallen logs lying in two different orientations so log fields never all point the same way, standing dead snags 3 to 7 blocks tall, and old stumps. Available in oak, birch, spruce, dark oak and jungle, each placed only in the biomes where that wood belongs.
🍂 Realistic Ground Texture :
The forest floor is graded instead of being a single block everywhere. Podzol collects in damp shaded ground under closed canopy, coarse dirt appears on eroded steep slopes, moss spreads through old growth and wetland, gravel and stone break through on windswept high ground, mud sits in swamp shallows, and pebbles line riverbeds and shores.
This works at two levels — scattered patch features and a reworked overworld surface rule — so the materials follow the terrain's own noise and steepness instead of sitting in obvious circles.
🌿 Understory & Flowers :
Dense grass and ferns, tall grass, large ferns, mushroom clusters, berry bushes and dead bush, plus themed flower mixes for forest, meadow, taiga and savanna. Understory density is noise-driven, so vegetation forms natural clumps and clearings rather than an even wash across the whole biome.
🪨 Rocks & Terrain Detail :
Mossy cobblestone, stone, andesite and cobblestone boulders scattered through the woods, plus loose scree on windswept slopes and stony shores.
🚫 What It Does NOT Change :
Being clear about this, because many terrain mods are not.
- Terrain shape is untouched — density functions and the noise router are byte-for-byte vanilla, so your landscape, mountains, caves and biome layout generate exactly as always. Only the surface material rule is modified.
- Biome data is preserved — mob spawns, temperature, sky/water/fog colors, music and carvers are byte-for-byte identical to vanilla. Florest only adds to biome feature lists, it never rewrites them.
- No new blocks, items, mobs, dimensions or recipes.
Everything Florest places follows the same placement rules vanilla uses for its own trees — nothing roots in water, nothing grows out of bare stone, and no plant is left floating.
🌍 Biome Coverage :
33 vanilla biomes, with content picked per biome instead of sprayed everywhere.
- Broadleaf — Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Dark Forest, Flower Forest, Cherry Grove
- Conifer — Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Grove, Windswept Forest
- Tropical — Jungle, Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle
- Wetland — Swamp, Mangrove Swamp
- Open land — Plains, Sunflower Plains, Meadow, Snowy Plains, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, Wooded Badlands

⚙️ Compatibility :
- Compatible with Sodium
- Compatible with Iris and shader packs
- Compatible with Punchy!
- Works with any resource pack
- Client-optional — for multiplayer, installing it on the server alone is enough
- No performance cost while playing — worldgen time measured within normal variance of vanilla
- Conflicts with large worldgen overhauls such as Terralith or Biomes O' Plenty, since those replace the same vanilla biome files
📦 Supported Versions :
- Minecraft versions: 1.20.1
- Mod loaders: Fabric, Quilt, Forge, NeoForge
⚠️ Requires a new world. Chunks that already exist keep whatever generated them — only newly generated chunks get Florest content.
