# FinestFood — A Modular Cooking Expansion for NeoForge 1.21.1

**FinestFood** brings a deep, extensible cooking system to Minecraft, inspired by the best of farm-to-table food mods but rebuilt from the ground up as a fully modular, add-on-friendly cooking framework.

## Cooking Stations

Five distinct crafting stations each unlock a different class of food:

- **Cooking Pot** — simmer hearty soups, stews, and broths

- **Cutting Board** — prep salads, chop ingredients

- **Skillet** — fry, sear, and stir-fry your way to bold flavors

- **Oven** — bake breads, pastries, pies, roasts, and more

- **Fermenting Barrel** — craft fermented foods, dairy, and drinks over time

Over **70 themed recipe packs** ship with the mod, spanning cuisines and categories from around the world:

- **Global Cuisines** — Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, Indian, Thai, Mexican, Ethiopian, Greek/Mediterranean, Middle Eastern

- **Sushi & Raw** — nigiri, maki rolls, sashimi-style preparations

- **Comforting Classics** — soups, stews, curries, noodles, pasta, rice dishes

- **Baked Goods** — yeasted breads, flatbreads, enriched loaves, cookies, pastries, cakes, pies, quiches

## Food That Actually Does Something

Every dish carries meaningful stats. Eating isn't just about hunger:

- **Health Delta** — dishes can restore or drain health on consumption

- **Timed Status Effects** — speed, regeneration, strength, and more, tied to specific recipes

- **Dangerous Recipes** — opt-in high-risk/high-reward cooking (configurable via `runtime_config.json`)

- **Tooltip Previews** — see exactly what a dish will do to you *before* you eat it

## Smart Station UX

Stations are interactive and intuitive:

- **Right-click** a station with ingredients to load them in

- **Empty-hand right-click** opens the station panel showing pending inputs, cook progress, and ready output

- **Shift+Right-Click** previews the best matching recipes from your current inputs

- **Hold a Book + Shift+Right-Click** for a detailed recipe inspect: full ingredient list, missing counts, cook time, health delta, and effects

- Cycle through tracked recipes to use ghost-recipe guidance while you gather remaining ingredients

- **Action bar feedback** keeps you informed of idle/cooking/ready states without opening a menu

- Station state — pending ingredients, tracked recipe, cooking progress, and output — **persists across chunk reloads**

## World Integration

FinestFood ingredients don't just appear in your inventory — they show up in the world:

- Supply caches injected into **village chests, shipwrecks, desert pyramids, and mineshafts**

- Tiered loot tables (`supply_cache_common` / `supply_cache_advanced`) with structure-specific drop rates

- Biome tags for future **wild crop spawning** and ferment-friendly environments

## Add-On Friendly by Design

FinestFood is built as a platform, not just a mod:

- Drop JSON packs into `config/grunclevillagerai/finestfood/packs/` to add new ingredients, stations, and dishes — **no coding required**

- Use `textRecipes` for plain-text recipe authoring; IDs are auto-generated

- Fuzzy ingredient matching means cross-mod items work out of the box

- `strictMatch: true` available per-recipe for tight compatibility control

- Java `CookingFeaturePack` / `CookingPackProvider` API for mod-integrated add-ons
