Fat Bear QOL
Keep the equipment you earned while giving death a recoverable cost.
- Tools, weapons, armour and other recognised equipment stay with you after death.
- Vanilla bundles and shulker boxes containing any retained equipment stay intact, including their supplies. Nested containers are checked recursively.
- Other supplies and your current XP are stored in a grave. Owner pickup returns the stored XP once, adding it to XP earned since respawn.
- Prevents ordinary durability loss while still allowing repairs.
- Does not change difficulty, keep-inventory, mob griefing or sleeping rules. Those belong to the world or server operator.
Requires Minecraft 26.3, Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or later, Fabric API and Java 25. Install on the server or in your singleplayer instance. The Fat Bear Season pack includes it on both sides. When keep-inventory is enabled, the mod respects it instead of capturing death inventory.
Grave appearance, ownership, locating and configuration commands come from the integrated Graves implementation. The optional upstream Mod Menu/Cloth configuration GUI is not included. Equipment classification recognises vanilla components and conventional tags; proprietary containers from other mods may need compatibility work.
Credits and source
The grave implementation is derived from Graves by Fayber, source commit d700ff19b043b0cfa684430ce54feac72875a24c on branch fabric/26.3:

Fat Bear adds equipment-aware death handling, integrated XP recovery and durability rules, along with persistence safeguards and tests. Released under GPL-3.0-or-later. The complete corresponding source and build scripts are supplied as the source JAR attached to this version. Upstream copyright and licence notices are retained.
Do not install the original Graves mod alongside Fat Bear QOL. For an existing installation, stop and back up the world before replacing the old mod; the existing Graves data namespace and save format are preserved. Backups remain necessary.
Development disclosure
The original Graves implementation is Fayber's work. Fat Bear's integration, modifications, tests and this project description were substantially produced with generative AI assistance under the project owner's direction. There is no generative AI runtime functionality. No AI-generated project images are used.
The bear branding is an actual Minecraft render of a Naturalist bear from the Fat Bear Season pack, captured in a staged test world. Fat Bear QOL itself does not add animals.
