Fair Experience v1.0.3 Changelog
✨ New Feature: Fair Anvil Combining & Enchantment Scaling
Fair Experience now completely overhauls Anvil combining to eliminate vanilla's frustrating Prior Work Penalty (PWP) compounding and order dependencies!
🛠️ Highlights & Improvements:
-
Order-Independent Anvil Combining:
- Adding enchantments from books in any order or combination now yields the exact same fair total XP cost.
- Adding enchantments one by one costs the exact same total as adding them all from a single pre-combined book.
- Symmetrical Combining: Swapping the left and right books in the anvil never changes the cost.
-
Fair Progression Scaling for Existing Enchantments:
- Having enchantments already on your weapon or armor naturally makes adding subsequent enchantments cost a fair bit more, matching intuitive RPG progression while remaining 100% mathematically consistent regardless of order.
-
Fair Equipment Repairing:
- Repairing enchanted weapons/armor with materials (e.g., diamonds on a diamond sword) now scales fairly based on the enchantments on the item (+1 level per enchantment).
- Highly enchanted items are more expensive to repair than plain unenchanted items, but use transparent, fair math.
- Repairing never doubles exponentially ( 15 → 31 → 63 ) and will never permanently lock out your favorite gear with "Too Expensive!". You can repair your equipment indefinitely!
-
Fair Book Upgrades:
- Combining books to reach higher enchantment levels (e.g., Sharpness 3 + 3 → 4, and 4 + 4 → 5) produces books with clean prior work penalties.
- Applying a crafted high-tier book to your weapon now costs the exact same fair amount as using a raw book obtained from a villager or creative mode!
-
Configurable 40-Level "Too Expensive!" Limit:
- By default, valid operations are no longer blocked by vanilla's 40-level cap in the anvil GUI or container. If you have the required levels/XP, you can always craft!
- Added a toggle (
removeTooExpensiveLimit) inconfig/fairexperience.cfgso players or modpack creators who still want vanilla's 40-level limit enforced can easily restore it.
⚙️ Configuration (config/fairexperience.cfg)
# Configuration for Fair Experience general { # If true, anvil level costs will be converted to fair raw XP costs. B:enableFairAnvils=true # If true, anvil enchanting calculations are fair and order-independent: combining books or applying them in any order costs the same, prior work penalties do not penalize combines, and combining books to reach higher levels will not yield higher costs to combine with items. B:enableFairAnvilCombining=true # If true, direct experienceLevel subtractions (e.g. by LevelUp2) will be converted to fair raw XP costs. B:enableFairDirectModifications=true # If true, enchanting table level costs will be converted to fair raw XP costs. B:enableFairEnchanting=true # If true, removes the vanilla 40-level 'Too Expensive!' anvil limit, allowing operations that cost 40 or more levels. If false, operations costing 40+ levels are blocked like in vanilla. B:removeTooExpensiveLimit=true }
