Description
Fading Depths makes deep ocean actually water dark. Lighting fades smoothly based on your depth beneath the local water surface, making underwater exploration more atmospheric and lamps more useful at depth. Fully configurable to suit your world, ocean depths, and lighting preferences.
Works in vanilla and directly integrated to work with Complimentary Unbound and Complimentary Unbound + Eupohoria Patches!
Features
- Depth-based darkness: sunlight gradually fades as you descend
- Configurable lighting: choose when fading begins, when full darkness is reached, and how much light remains
- Underwater fog controls: adjust darkness and visibility at depth
- Useful artificial lighting: sea lanterns, torches, and other light sources keep working
- Vision assistance: configurable support for Night Vision and Conduit Power
- Client-side effects: works without installing the mod on a server
Configuration
Open Mods → Fading Depths → Config to adjust the settings and depth lighting levels and fade settings
Complementary Unbound Support
Shader support is experimental and requires a patched shader copy.
-
Select your original Complementary Unbound ZIP in Iris.
-
Join a world and run
/fadingdepths patch. -
Select the newly generated shader ZIP containing
FadingDepthsin its name.
The patch adds depth-based lighting, darker underwater fog, and a fade intended to soften the distant underwater render boundary.
Your original shader ZIP stays untouched. Switch back to it at any time to undo the shader changes.
Other shader packs are currently unsupported, some may work better than others but the above patches will not work with any shaders except for Complimentary Unbound and Complimentary Unbound + Eupohoria Patches
