CC: Chunkless

Keep your ComputerCraft networks connected through unloaded chunks

Description

Build long cable routes, distant radio towers and networks spanning continents without keeping every chunk along the way loaded.

CC: Chunkless remembers your network’s connections and forwards modem packets through unloaded infrastructure. Players at either end can communicate while the cables and relay stations between them remain unloaded.

  • Unloaded wired routes: Send modem packets and Rednet messages through existing CC networking cables across unloaded chunks
  • Native relay stations: Register stationary computers as bridges between wired and wireless connections. Forwarding works without a Lua repeater running at each station
  • Finite Ender Modems: Ender Modems are no longer magic and only have twice the normal wireless range by default, plus multi-dimensional capabilities
  • Portal connections: Bridge dimensions using Ender Modems near opposite ends of an observed Nether or End portal connection
  • Configurable limits: Control relay range, network size and traffic budgets
  • Server only: Uses existing CC blocks. Players do not need Chunkless installed

Cable sections must be observed while loaded before they can carry unloaded traffic. Radio relay stations require registration. Once the route is established, its middle chunks can unload while the communicating endpoints stay loaded.

Unloaded routing carries messages; it does not run arbitrary Lua programs, tick machines or extend remote peripheral access. GPS stays local. An optional, limited keepalive feature can keep selected computers loaded when their actual Lua programs need to run.

Quick Setup Guide

1. Register Relay Stations

    1. Place a stationary ComputerCraft computer with an attached modem (normal, Advanced, or Ender)
    2. Open the computer terminal.
    3. ype chunkless and press Enter
    4. Enter a unique station name and a network group
    5. Repeat for other relay stations, using the same group

2. Connect Your Network

  • Relay stations must be within their modems' configured communication range, hop by hop
  • Computers at both ends must remain loaded and running
  • Intermediate registered stations can unload and still forward messages
  • Use normal Rednet or modem APIs. No special Lua relay program is required.

3. Admin Commands

  • /chunkless status - Check system status
  • /chunkless relay list - View registered stations
  • /chunkless relay remove <name> - Remove a station.

Important Notes

  • Registering stations does not automatically connect them. Valid communication paths are still required
  • Unloaded computers do not execute Lua. Chunkless forwards network traffic, not computer processing
  • Moving ships cannot act as registered relay stations
  • Underwater acoustic routing requires compatible CC: Waterline installations and previously surveyed water paths

Installation: Server-side only. Requires CC: Tweaked and NeoForge 1.21.1. No client installation necessary.
