PLEASE NOTE: Ex Nihilo is now in maintenance mode. This means that there is only bugfixing for 1.7.10. Stay tuned for Ex Nihilo in 1.9.4 and beyond!
Hi everybody! I'm Crowley, and I'm totally addicted to playing Skyblock maps, which is the major influence for this mod. I love starting from nothing and working my way up, but I have always felt that there were a few glaring omissions in vanilla skyblock that didn't make any sense. This is how I fixed them.
There is a very detailed guide available for all the blocks, items and new mechanics added by this mod. I suggest giving it a read to check out everything I've added.
You can use this mod with any map and it will be both fun and useful, not just Skyblock. Still, I recommend using the original Skyblock map by Noobcrew.
If you enjoy the mod, please consider supporting me through my Patreon account.

Wish there were a way to config which items dropped from branches. I've got BirdsNest now, which is a great way to get Ex Nihilo items (seeds, primarily, but also stones, flint for 2x2 flint tools from Improving Minecraft, and a few others), but in playtesting this (not for a Skyblock map), I'm finding that the Crook is out of place in the tech tree. I've deliberately pushed back the crafting table as not the sort of thing you'd put together if you got lost while hiking (which is my build's focus), at least not on the first couple of days, so all recipes have to be 2x2. And I can change the Crook recipe to a 2x2 one just fine, but... it feels weird. Feels like it'd be more immersive if a certain percentage of the branches deliberately broken by hand (as opposed to later when chopping whole trees and having the leaves disintegrate) could be just, well, crooked branches that are particularly useful for this.
That aside, I'm glad to get back into Ex Nihilo. Even when thrown into normal play, it feels like some additions that are useful to the general game.
when i downloaded sky factory 4 they removed this mod what a stupid idea
In reply to datme:
how? this mod is only for 1.7.10 but SF4 is 1.12.2.
i think you mean the successor to this mod, "Ex Nihilo: Creatio"
also it was removed because the mod just made it a copy of SF3, and the saplings are pretty dope too so it's not so bad.

Can I use this for my mods?
Ex Nihilo
Ex Nihilo
I love Ex Nihilo (
but I don't like sieving odds)!I'd go with the Ultra Hardcore Skyblock map as the perfect candidate map for this mod. One tree and one block of dirt between you and oblivion. So much challenge putting the wood planks around the dirt and slowly expanding the island to something sustainable. Eventually got a 4 x 4 tree farm going (Dimensions mean how many trees are in the farm, so 16 trees. Actual block dimensions = 10x10).
Edit: Not the official name, but it's the one used in Sky Factory.
i am making a mod pack can you update it to 1.12.2 version?
Perfect mod.
Ignore the 1.10 demands.
How do you add your own heat sources for the crucible? I'm using Ex Nihilo and Ex Astris for 1.7.10. I tried using
from modtweaks, but nothing happened.
