"WHY IS MY MINECRAFT DOING THIS?"

Minecraft has noticed you. And it told everyone.

Every tree you chop screams. Blocks tear themselves out of the ground and roll after you. Chests bite, doors lock, your bread runs away before you can eat it, the cows insult you, your own dog turns on you and the sky rains anvils. Minecraft keeps a ledger of everything you ever did, talks to you in a distorted voice, hunts you with something that only moves when you look away, and when you're down to half a heart it makes you spin the wheel of fate: life or death.

This isn't an "all mobs are hostile" mod. Here the whole game is the antagonist: Minecraft itself is the petty, deadpan ringleader, and every block, item, animal and the sky itself has an opinion about you.

How it starts

You're playing perfectly normal Minecraft. Thirty seconds in, chat says:

<Minecraft> oh.
<Minecraft> it's you.
<Minecraft> everyone! it's them!
<Grass Block> get off me.

A small angry pixel face appears in the corner: EVERYTHING IS ANNOYED. From then on, everything you do is written down, and the world answers in kind. It goes from ANNOYED to SPITEFUL to HOSTILE to UNHINGED.

Everything hates you

The blocks come alive. Every log you chop screams and bleeds, every stone groans, and the blocks next to the one you broke tear themselves loose, grow glowing red eyes and a mouth full of teeth, and come for you. Logs and boulders roll at you, everything else hops. Ores do the opposite: they run away. Sometimes the whole tree comes apart and attacks, the forest wakes up, a giant boulder rolls down the hill, or your own house comes after you.

Everything talks. Mobs insult you through floating name tags ("moo. (derogatory)", "even i wouldn't eat you"), blocks and items talk in chat under their own names (<Oak Log> tell my saplings i loved them), the sky and the sun chime in. Hit a mob and it complains. Die and every mob around you laughs.

Everything you touch fights back. Chests bite ("was bitten to death by a chest") and spit your stuff out, doors lock or slam in your face, crafting tables dodge your hand, torches go out, food runs away, armor walks off, tools get tired of you, loot flees from your kills.

The world. A personal raincloud, blood rain, sunburn, the water holds you under, the ground launches you, the grass trips you, ladders quit while you climb them. Animals flee from you, then one of them snaps; hit one cow and the whole herd comes for you.

Your own game. Inverted controls. An upside-down camera. Fake advancements announced to everyone ("Participation Trophy: Exist. Barely."), a fake death screen whose Respawn button runs away from your mouse, a fake "Connection Lost", a fake world deletion ("Deleting your dog…"), and a window title that reads MINECRAFT HATES YOU.

Then it stops joking

• The Watcher: a too-tall black figure with glowing eyes appears where you aren't looking. It only moves while you don't look at it. Turn around and it's closer. If it reaches you, it screams in your face ("looked away").
• Behind you: your camera is spun around to show you what was standing right behind you.
• Jumpscares: a screaming face rushing at the screen, or TV static flashing I SEE YOU.
• The Hunt: RUN. A 60-second boss bar while waves of glowing hunters spawn around you and never lose track of you.
• The floor is lava, meteor showers, lightning aimed where you stood a second ago, a creeper ambush right behind you, cave-ins in your tunnels, anvil rain, it rains cows, TIME OUT (a glass box: "think about what you did").
• Gore: everything bleeds; blood splatters across your screen when you're hurt, and your heartbeat pounds when you're nearly dead.

The wheel of fate

At half a heart, the world stops. Black screen, red vignette, your heartbeat, and a wheel: LIFE or DEATH, fifty-fifty, clicking past the pointer slower and slower. LIFE: you're back on your feet at full health and the world leaves you alone for three minutes. DEATH: the world takes you.

The finale: THE GRUDGE

Minecraft keeps every block you ever broke. At maximum hatred the screen goes dark ("you have broken 4,312 blocks. i kept them. ALL of them.") and The Grudge assembles: a giant built out of the exact blocks you broke. A miner fights a stone giant, a lumberjack fights a tree monster. Beat it and the world forgives you… for now.

Minecraft speaks

Every line Minecraft says, you hear: a deep, doubled, distorted voice. The mod is available in English and German (Beta); chat, titles, name tags, death messages and the voice follow your game language.

Talk back

Type sorry and it might forgive you a little ("apology accepted. partially. like 10%."). Ask why? and it lists your crimes. Insult it and it gets angrier. Throw it diamonds with Q to calm it down; throw it dirt and it throws it back.

Settings

The Everything Hates You button on the title screen opens the mod menu:

• Difficulty: Easy (half the chaos, nothing hunts you down, half damage), Medium, Hard (everything, all the time).
• Language: Automatic, English, Deutsch (Beta).
• Jumpscares and Blood on/off.

More options are in the config files (chaos amount, terrain-changing pranks, lethal events, the boss, and more).

FAQ

Does it work in multiplayer? Yes. Install it on the server and on every client. Every player has their own grudge, their own mood meter and their own wheel of fate.

Can I add it to my modpack? Yes, go ahead. A link back to this page is appreciated.

Is it too much / too scary? Pick Easy on the title screen, or switch jumpscares and blood off there. On Easy nothing hunts you down and damage is halved.

Does it destroy my world? Some events change terrain (living blocks, cave-ins, the floor is lava). Turn off terrain pranks in the config if you want your builds untouched. The fake world deletion is fake.

Can I make it stop? /ehy pause gives everyone a break, /ehy reset makes Minecraft forget you (allegedly).

Fabric / Forge / other versions? Right now: NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1. More versions are planned.

Found a bug?

Report it in the comments with your Minecraft and NeoForge version and the log (logs/latest.log). Bugs that make the world hate you more than intended are features. The others get fixed.

Requires: NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1. Install on the client (for the voice, screens and effects) and on the server. Multiplayer works: every player has their own grudge.
