Epic Fight Living World

Persistent personalities and observable combat decisions for Epic Fight mobs.

Epic Fight Living World Don’t you hate how a mob can look dangerous, then run straight at you like it’s never been in a fight before? Living World is my attempt to change that. This mod gives supported Epic Fight mobs their own combat identity. They can watch what you do, judge when to approach, circle you, keep their distance, use an opening after you swing, defend themselves, or decide that staying alive matters more than winning. They are still Minecraft mobs, but I want an encounter to feel like you met an individual instead of another copy of the same enemy.

Mobs have personalities A cautious fighter may spend more time testing your reach and looking for a safer angle. An aggressive one is more willing to close the gap. Patient mobs wait for a better moment, proud mobs can take risks for the sake of a fight, and a reckless mob may commit when backing off would have been smarter.

Personality affects decisions, not just numbers. It can change how a mob approaches, circles, attacks, uses a skill, reacts to pressure, works with others, or escapes. Mobs also keep a limited memory of what happened to them, and their identity and equipment persist when the world saves. That does not mean every cautious mob is harmless or every aggressive mob charges on sight. If you walk right into a mob’s striking range, it can recognize that you are close enough to hurt it and respond. Some rare encounters may calm down if neither side starts a fight, but walking around unarmed is not a free pass through every enemy.

Six ranks, different kinds of danger Living World has Common, Uncommon, Rare, Elite, Champion, and Unique ranks. Commons are the mobs you will see most often. They can still position themselves, defend, and catch you making a mistake. Uncommons have more reliable combat options. Rares bring stronger loadouts and more ways to use them. Elites and Champions are faster, tougher, and more capable of taking control of a fight.

The higher ranks are not meant to be the only ones with a brain. Rarity changes things like health, speed, weapons, skill capacity, skill timing, and how long a mob can keep fighting through pressure. Personality still decides what that strength looks like in practice. A fast weapon and a good set of skills can be just as threatening as one huge blade. Unique is reserved for individually authored characters. The mod has the foundation for them, but this release does not randomly turn ordinary mobs into finished Unique characters or claim that their final stories and custom animations are already here. The fights can go in different directions

In a smaller fight, mobs can circle while facing you, back away from your reach, change angles, and look for a reason to commit. If you keep swinging a slow weapon, they have a chance to recognize the opening after an attack instead of dodging forever and doing nothing. If they decide to escape, the goal is to actually create distance and leave, not take one step back and immediately rush in again.

Groups change the situation. Nearby fighters can affect confidence and pressure, but being close to another mob does not automatically make them a perfect team. Stronger individuals may watch a battle before joining it. A Champion can decide that weaker allies are losing and act on that judgment. Mobs can also react to other creatures around them, so the world is not focused entirely on the player.

Different mobs fight differently Zombies use close combat, equipment, spacing, and survival decisions instead of only walking forward. Skeletons keep their ranged identity and look for useful positions while handling their weapons. Piglins fight within their Epic Fight behavior while retaining their normal Piglin interactions.

Endermen use safe tactical teleports to change angles and create an opening, and compatible Endermen can carry suitable weapons. Spiders use movement, climbing, pounces, and temporary webs to pressure a target. The web gives you a warning and can be avoided; it does not stay in the world forever.

The mod also has more conservative support for Creepers, Drowned, Strays, Wither Skeletons, Piglin Brutes, and Vindicators. Their behavior is adapted to what they can actually do. A Creeper, for example, still uses its own explosion rather than becoming a sword fighter. Weapons and skills

A mob’s weapon is part of its loadout and should suit its body, rank, and fighting style. Armed Commons are possible too. Not every strong weapon belongs to a Champion, and not every dangerous mob needs the biggest weapon it can find.

Living World uses supported Epic Fight actions and works with its required combat addons for parts of its movement and weapon pool. Mobs can use combat movement and defensive techniques when they have a valid action available. The player also gets access to Epic Fight’s default Step, so that basic movement option is not reserved for mobs.

A weapon showing up in an addon does not mean every species can use it or every addon skill can be performed by a mob. The mod checks compatibility instead of pretending that a player skill automatically works on every creature. What this release is

This is the playable combat foundation for Living World. It includes persistent identities, ranks, personalities, combat decisions, supported species behavior, equipment, skills, configuration, and tools for inspecting mobs.

Some of the bigger ideas I am building toward still need my own animations, dialogue, and character assets. That includes the full presentation of powerful presences, social scenes, rival encounters, and the final Unique characters. I do not want to show a framework in the files and call it a finished cinematic in the game. Installation

This release is for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 on NeoForge. It requires Epic Fight, EpicFight Nightfall, and Weapons of Miracles. Install the versions listed on this project’s Dependencies page alongside Living World. The mod belongs on both the client and server when you play multiplayer. If a mob behaves strangely, tell me which mob and rank it was, what weapon you were using, which combat addons were installed, and what happened right before the issue. A short clip helps a lot. I want to know when a mob made a smart choice and when its body failed to follow through, because those are two different problems.

That’s the idea. I want you to meet a Zombie and wonder what it is about to do, not already know the answer because you fought a hundred identical ones.
