What is this mod?
DynamicWaters adds dynamic, flowing rivers to Minecraft. Water is no longer static or “fake-looking” in long river shapes - instead, rivers now behave more naturally with visible flow and direction, making the world feel more alive and immersive.
Why does it exist?
In modern Minecraft versions (1.18+), rivers often feel like long, flat pools with no real movement. Older solutions like the Streams mod existed but are no longer maintained, and large mods like TerraFirmaCraft are too complex if you only want improved water physics. This mod aims to fill that missing gap.
How does this mod work?
Rivers are carved into the terrain as part of world generation, forming separate features instead of just random water spawns. They shape themselves into natural paths through the landscape based on elevation and terrain generation.
Important notes (BETA)
- This is a beta version of the mod.
- The mod will be continuously improved over time, especially in the area of world generation and river behavior.
Known Issues:
- Structures may generate floating above rivers in some cases (fixed in 8.0.0)
Compatible Mods:
- Nature’s Spirit
- Regions Unexplored
- Oh The Biomes We’ve Gone
- Continents
- Create -(no direct interaction, but works fine with the custom rivers)
- Tectonic (compatible from version 8.0.0+)
Any biome-adding mod should generally work fine. However, mods that restore or modify vanilla-style rivers may conflict with this mod and break immersion.
FAQ
Q: Will there be a NeoForge 1.21.1 port?
A: Probably in the future. For now, my priority is finishing and polishing the 1.20.1 Forge version first.
Q: Does this work on existing worlds?
A: No - you need to create a new world. Since Dynamic Waters modifies world generation, already generated terrain will not regenerate correctly.
Q: Will rivers become more realistic in future versions?
A: Yes - river generation, flow behavior and terrain interaction are planned to become more advanced over time.
Q: Can I include this mod in my modpack?
A: Yes - feel free to include Dynamic Waters in your modpack without any problem. Credit is appreciated, but not required. If possible, linking back to the mod page is always welcome.
