Dynamic Connected Textures

Organic visual transitions between stone, soil and moss, shaped by the materials around them.

Dynamic Connected Textures

Give caves and terrain more natural material boundaries. Dynamic Connected Textures turns abrupt edges between supported blocks into organic, texture-aware transitions, shaped by the materials actually present nearby.

The change is entirely visual. Your blocks, mining, drops, gravel physics and world generation keep their normal behavior. Existing worlds work without regeneration.

Blends that belong to their surroundings

  • Transitions vary smoothly from one to four blocks wide, along all three axes.
  • Twenty vanilla materials blend with one another: 190 unique pairs.
  • Several materials can share one rendered block. A granite, diorite and andesite junction can produce its own local mixture.
  • Connected texture features guide the boundaries, keeping the original textures recognizable.
  • Grassland tops favor exposed materials. Buried soil stays beneath intact lawns, while visible banks, gravel, moss and rock outcrops contribute detail.

Supported materials

Stone, diorite, granite, andesite, deepslate, tuff, calcite, dripstone block, sandstone, red sandstone, basalt, smooth basalt, blackstone, netherrack, end stone, obsidian, gravel, dirt, grass block and moss block.

These materials blend with each other, including ground-to-ground and ground-to-rock combinations. Ores, bedrock, worked masonry, slabs, stairs, plants and modded blocks are outside this release's palette.

Requirements and installation

  • Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.233 or newer within the 21.1 series
  • Java 21
  • Install on the client. The server does not need this mod.

Place the JAR in your instance's mods folder and restart Minecraft. Keep one version installed. If upgrading from the private Lithic Blend builds, remove their old JAR first; the internal mod ID is retained for continuity. No additional library mods or resource packs are required. This release is for NeoForge; it is not a Forge or Fabric build.

Resource packs

Dynamic Connected Textures uses textures from the active resource pack and does not bundle replacement Minecraft textures. Grass uses the pack's top, bottom, side and optional overlay, with biome tint and snowy appearances preserved.

Resource reload rebuilds the texture analysis; use F3+T after changing packs. Installing or updating the mod itself requires a restart. Feature detection is a visual heuristic, so very uniform textures or custom block models may behave differently.

Compatibility and scope

Release 1.0 uses the same rendering code checked with standard rendering and Sodium 0.8.12 for Minecraft 1.21.1, using Bare Bones 1.21.11. Sodium is optional. Gallery images are unaltered captures from the equivalent 0.6 development fixtures with Bare Bones active; the pack is not included or required.

Shaders/Iris, custom model geometry, multiplayer and every modpack combination have not been validated. Large-world performance has not been benchmarked. The blend mask uses a 16-by-16 grid per face while source textures retain their native resolution. Directional materials transferred into another block use their normal naturally generated orientation.

Feedback and modpacks

For bug reports, include your Minecraft, NeoForge and mod versions, renderer, active resource pack and a screenshot; attach a crash log if one exists. Comments on this project can be used for feedback.
