Welcome back everyone, I have returned to the world of spiders after so long. And I bring you an entirely new update (which is more of a overhaul). Every part of this mod except from the visuals has been built from the ground up in an attempt to fix any pre-existing issues (yes I am looking at you eggs that won't hatch for some reason if a player places them, without a damn good reason). So here is a changelong.

WARNING: Pre-Existing Spiders have a 99.99% chance of disappearing if you update to this from a prior version. Its unfortunately gonna happen, this is what you get when you rebuild everything. Treat it like a brand new mod.

Ok now onto the actual changelog

All Spiders will now have new stats (because frankly I didn't even glance at the old ones!) The new values are listed below feel free to let me know if you find something too weak or too strong. I might not agree with you but I promise I will read it!

Ok now that we got the numbers out of the way... More numbers? All your old spider types are still here with the same models and textures. Behavior and ai is gonna be different though as well as the things behind the scenes.

Eggs:

Sadly I cannot edit the drops of normal spiders, if I could I would. So for now you still make the eggs with a single chicken egg and 8 spider eyes.... and a whole lot of video game logic. That being said the eggs can be placed as always and will eventually hatch into spiders (They are tested to work fine now at least on my end when placed by people and will hatch in about 1 minute and 10 seconds according to my timer). You can place eggs up to 3 within a single block and they will hatch one at a time.

Spiderlings:

Adorable little buggers, they walk around. They eat leaves, they make cobwebs and string... AND THERE YOU go thats one of the first changes baby. Gone are the days of farming your dark oak groves for leaves. All kinds of vanilla leaves are now on the menu! They still prefer dark oak as their FAVORITE so if you want them to follow you around I suggest having some on hand. But they can eat any kind of vanilla leaf block now. Every time they eat a leaf block their tummies fill up a tiny bit and when they get to the right level they will make a cute little cobweb in one of the blocks around them (this process covers all 4 directions, as well as the block above them and the one they are on) If they cannot place a block they will instead drop a single strand of string (which does despawn similar to chicken eggs so you will have to collect them).

(Pst anyone making a mod who wants to make their leaves compatible the tag for qualifying as spider chow is arachnid_rancher_rebuilt_18:spiderfoodleaves)

Adult Domestic Spiders:

Ok as stated in the spiderlings section, adults also now eat all the leaf types and can be bred with them too! they share the spiderlings web making system with a minor tweak. Adult Spiders in addition to making webs when fed sufficiently will create webs over a period of time that is currently at about ... 4 minutes... if you want to speed this up I suggest feeding them a few leaves.

You can also saddle up your adult spiders for a rather speedy mount!, they come with their own keybind to jump (by default set to space) and can jump up over 2 block barriers (They won't do this on their own though so don't worry about breakouts). Additionally they are immune to fall damage so don't worry about that! (I will note that you however are not so do maybe worry a little). While saddles a spider cannot breed or produce webbing, what can I say it just gets in the way of the ... parts needed.

Bone Spiders: Armored Arachnids!

If you give a spider a bonemeal! it becomes a bone spider and will grow some nice skeleton like armor. Stats and food info below!

Conversion Item: Bonemeal
Foods: Bonemeal (1 Heart), Bone (3 Hearts), Bone Block (9 Hearts & Strength Buff 5 minutes)
Armored Carapace: Has an Armor rating of roughly equivalent to iron armor

Flesh Spiders: Berserkers! Born to shred through hordes of zombies! (Just kidding a single spider will likely not survive a good group)

Conversion Item: Rotten Flesh
Foods: Rotten Flesh (1 Heart)
Gains 1 Heart and  a significant Regen Buff after making a kill

Blaze Spiders: Fire spiders its simple as that.

Conversion Item: Blaze Powder
Foods: Blaze Powder (1 Hearts, Blaze Rod (2 Hearts & Strength Buff 5 minutes)
Ignites foes when attacking

NOTES ON BLAZE, FLESH and, BONE SPIDERS:

The following applies to all of the above combat spiders

  • Follow toggle has been changed to sneak right click
  • Follow toggle cannot be triggered while holding any of the food items eaten by the spiders listed
  • Spiders no longer auto target any particular mobs. This is largely because I am not certain how well they would survive if I did this. They will still attack anything that harms you, them or that you attack (this includes your other tames.) I am working on finding a way to prevent them from targeting your tamed spiders or other pets... but its not here yet and I figured yall would like thinks fixed quicker.

Misc Stuff:

Some items that exist for testing purposes but I have left available in the creative menu for you weirdos. Since a few people have commented about messing around with them.

Webslinger, Fires a projectile similar to a bow or crossbow which will drag you along with it (usually safely)

  • This item is a test for a function I would like to add to mounted spiders but as of yet the aiming is... well non existent for the spiders and would be rather underwhelming. So for now its shelved in favor of getting the mod updated for bug fixing purposes.

PlaceholderTestingWand: Does whatever I was testing last, in this case it should be highlighting tamed within a given radius that are below max health

  • I am considering creating an item that has similar functionality for spiders only as a way for letting the players know when their tamed spiders are in need of assistence

Health Stick: Tells you how much health something has

Taming Stick: Tames something if its tameable and untamed.
