AUTHOR NOTES:
WHAT's NEXT/SPICES UPDATE v1.3 (7/07/26)
Mostly happy with the quality produced in this update. I would like to point out that no textures/models are ever final for the mod. For example, banana trees look completely different now and admittedly an arguably divisive take on this new version (but I’ll let this one cook for a bit until I change my mind again). Since my texturing skills are always improving, many textures fall behind of others each update as the bar gets raised each time so they require overhauling or subtle changes. That being said, the quality of all textures should eventually converge to the same standard near the final version.
Two major changes in this update are the condiment and wild crop systems. Condiments have been changed to stack up to 16 rather than having multiple usages (durability). This is to give condiments more flexibility to be used as an applied condiment and as a crafting ingredient. Because of that, condiments are cheaper to craft, but it means they are one time use. Textures have been complete revamped to match those of vectorwing’s concepts for jams/jars for stylistic consistency. Lastly, condiment overlays should render smoothly because they now use a baked model wrapper. Figuring out how to implement overlays will help in the next update since it provides a platform for dynamic rendering of item variants which I will discuss a bit more later.
Wild crops have been grouped into families of wild crops rather than each crop of having it’s own variant. This is to prevent bloating given that the final roster of crops will be quite extensive and make it easier for players to find and gather all the crops they need by bundling them up into families.
The system of each crop having an ‘imbued’ effect will be explained in the new mechanic for the next update, which is going to be one of the main gimmicks of the mod: ‘Grand Cooking’. Simply put, a new utility block that is a heavy-duty older sibling to the regular cooking pot that allows players to insert their own ingredients and produce a unique and powerful dish output that has food properties related to the ingredients.
For the next theme of crops, the roster for fruits will be finished with new berries and stone fruits!
🥦CROPS
There are twenty one new crops implemented in this add-on:
Bell Pepper, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Celery, Chili, Green Bean, Pea
Banana, Kiwi, Lemon, Mango, Orange, Pear, Pineapple
Almond, Corn, Oats, Peanut, Pistachio, Soy, Walnut
Cinnamon, Garlic, Ginger, Mustard, Vanilla

🍅ADDITIONAL FEATURES
- Worm Bin! Right-click with food scraps and watch it fill up. Over time the worm bin will deplete through the contents and bonemeal the area around it.
- Condiments. Apply these to a consumable item in your offhand and give a variety of nutritional bonuses! Ketchup gives extra nutrition and makes it faster to consume edible items. Mayonnaise rewards extra nutrition and saturation. Hot sauce gives temporary fire resistance. Marmalade gives extra nutrition and gives temporary immunity. Peanut butter also provides extra nutrition and gives temporary strength. Aioli gives temporary pungent effect. Mustard gives temporary enrichment effect.
- Fruit Trees: grow saplings of fruit trees to grow your own fruits. You can cross-pollinate between different fruiting leaves blocks to influence their genetics and create fruiting leaves that are more productive. An in-depth explanation of this is provided down below.
- More Dish Effects - certain dishes will now provide a specific effect aside from the usual Comfort/Nourishment. These are shorter and less potent effects but are helpful for early-game alternatives for potions or specific situations.
- Seven new effects you can find in dishes! Enrichment - boosts gained experience. Gathering - increases the radius in which items can be picked up. Immunity - prevents negative status effects from being inflicted (only works against negative status effects of equal level to the immunity effect). Lightfooted - increases sneaking speed. Pungent - causes hostile mobs to flee from the player. Relaxed - increases block interaction range. Sturdy - increases resistance to knockback.

Big thanks to vectorwing for creating Farmer's Delight!! https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/farmers-delight
SIDE NOTES:
The mod is as of now only been developed for NeoForge, but a Fabric version will be made once I have smoothened out the NeoForge version and squashed any bugs/issues. Backports are unlikely, but 1.20.1 is definitely for consideration in the future.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment on the curseforge mod page here!
