Description
Dead or Alive - Player Bounties & Wanted Posters
Put a price on another player's head, nail up their Wanted Poster, and let the whole server hunt them.
Dead or Alive adds player bounties to any SMP or PvP server. Someone burned your base? Walk up to a Bounty Board, pay to put a reward on their head, and the server hears about it. Every hunter can see the price, print a Wanted Poster with the target's face and last known whereabouts, and collect the moment they take the target down. Bounties from different players stack, so the most hated player on the server is also the most valuable.
Nothing is created from thin air. Every reward is real money taken from the players who posted it and held in escrow until someone collects it or it expires and goes back to them.
The Bounty Board
- Crafted from five Planks, two Paper, one Iron Sword and one Stick (planks across the top, paper either side of the sword in the middle, planks either side of the stick at the bottom). Found in the Functional Blocks tab.
- Right-click to open the board: every open bounty, sorted by reward, with each target's face, total price and last known region.
- Poster prints a Wanted Poster for that target (one Paper by default).
- + adds to an existing bounty in two clicks.
- The Hunters tab is the leaderboard. The Post a Bounty tab is the form: name, reward, and the exact cost including the posting fee before you pay.
Wanted Posters
- Shows the target's face (their real skin, even while they are offline), name, total reward and last known region.
- Region is coarse on purpose: "near X 1500, Z -500 in the Overworld", rounded to 500 blocks by default. Set it to 0 and posters never reveal location at all.
- Reading an old poster always shows the current reward. A poster for a bounty that was already collected says so.
- Pin them up in item frames around spawn. That is what they are for.
Collecting
- Kill the target and the whole bounty is yours. Arrows and other projectiles count for the shooter. Kills by your tamed pets count, and so does a death shortly after your hit (knocked off a cliff, burned out).
- Bring them in alive. With Ethical Kidnapping & Ransom installed, binding a wanted player into your prison claims the bounty plus a 25% bonus, paid out of the posting fee treasury so no money appears from nowhere. Without that mod this part simply stays switched off.
- After a bounty is collected the target gets a cooldown (30 minutes by default) before anyone can post on them again, so nobody gets farmed at spawn.
Built against abuse
The first thing any server does with a bounty mod is try to cash in on their friends. These checks refuse the payout and tell the hunter why:
| Check | What it stops |
|---|---|
| Same vanilla scoreboard team | Teammates collecting on each other |
| Same FTB Teams party | Party members collecting on each other (when FTB Teams is installed) |
| Same or allied Open Parties and Claims party | Party and ally farming (when OPAC is installed) |
| Same IP address | Most alt accounts |
| Linked accounts list in the config | Known alts and shared connections |
| No self posting, no self claims | Putting a bounty on yourself and dying to a friend |
| Minimum bounty, posting fee, cooldown | Spam and laundering money through fake bounties |
| Expiry with refund | Old grudges sitting on the board forever (72 hours by default, each poster's share on its own clock) |
Visible from the first minute
- Server wide announcement: "A bounty of 150 emeralds has been placed on Steve." Posters stay anonymous unless you turn names on.
- A red WANTED tag on the target's nameplate, with the price beside it.
- Optional glowing for anyone above a threshold you choose (off by default).
- Claims are announced too, including who brought whom in alive.
Payment
| Backend | How it works |
|---|---|
| Currency items (default) | Emeralds and emerald blocks out of the box, or any items you list with their values. Change is handed back automatically. |
| Lightman's Currency | Used automatically when it is installed: bounties come straight out of the wallet, and refunds to offline players go into their bank. Force either backend in the config. |
Money owed to a player who was offline (a refund, a payout) waits for them and arrives on their next login, or with /bounty collect.

Support the Mods
These mods are free and they stay free. If one of them runs on your server, you can back the next version, the next port, and the next mod at patreon.com/epicwarborn. Patrons get their name in the credits, a direct line to me for bugs, early builds, and a vote on what gets built next.
Name your price. Nail up the poster. Wait for the hunt.
