Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge
Heat is power. Build thermal networks, transport industrial temperatures, generate rotation from heat differences, and discover what happens when your factory gets too hot.
What is this?
Create: Thermodynamics & Heat Conduction introduces a distance-based thermal network to Create. Transport heat between machines using Copper Heat Pipes, control temperatures with absorbers and radiators, and generate rotational power with a Thermodynamic Stirling Engine. Build water-cooled systems, industrial heating installations, and thermal automation networks. Just remember: excessive temperatures can warp shafts, melt pipes, and damage nearby machinery.
Features
Copper Heat Pipe
Transport heat between industrial machines.
- Connects heat-producing and heat-consuming blocks.
- Exposed copper loses heat over distance.
- Pipes visibly glow when hot.
- Right-click with an Andesite Insulation Casing to insulate the pipe.
- Insulated pipes lose almost no heat over distance.
- Use a Wrench to remove the insulation.
Thermal Hazards
Extreme temperaturesHeat management is essential for safe factory operation.
Above 500°C:
- Shafts touching the heat pipe can warp.
- Warped shafts become Warped Shafts.
- They continue transmitting rotation but consume half of the network's stress capacity.
- A Mechanical Press can straighten them.
At 1000°C:
- Copper Heat Pipes melt into Molten Copper.
- Nearby machines can be damaged by the resulting thermal accident.
Molten Copper
- A dangerous molten material that burns like lava.
- Contact with water transforms it into Solidified Copper Slag.
- Solidified Copper Slag can be mined or ground to obtain Copper Nuggets.
Thermal Absorber
Pull heat from a source and transfer it into your Copper Heat Pipe network.
Can absorb heat from:
- Blaze Burners.
- Lava.
- Fire.
- Optical Heat Collectors activated by lasers.
With a superheated Blaze Burner, the Thermal Absorber can reach 1050°C, exceeding the copper melting point. Make sure your thermal network has adequate cooling!
Thermal Radiator
Provide controlled heat to Create processing machinery.
- Transfers heat to a Basin or boiler directly above it.
- Behaves like a Blaze Burner whose heat level follows the exact temperature of the connected thermal network.
- Above 250°C, it counts as heated.
- At 800°C, it counts as superheated.
- Can accelerate Mechanical Mixer processing by up to 2×.
Radiator Fan
Actively cool your thermal infrastructure.
- Blows air across cooling fins toward heat-producing blocks.
- Higher rotational speed provides stronger cooling.
- Can cool up to 6 blocks in front of it.
Water JacketA water-cooled section of your thermal network.
- Installs around a Copper Heat Pipe.
- Absorbs heat from the pipe.
- Converts its water into Pressurized Steam.
- Steam can be extracted through Create fluid systems.
- If steam is not pumped out, pressure continues rising until the Water Jacket bursts.
Thermodynamic Stirling Engine
Generate rotational power from temperature differences.
The engine uses a hot Copper Heat Pipe at the back and a cooler side at the front.
| Temperature difference | Output |
|---|---|
| 50°C | 16 RPM |
| 150°C | 32 RPM |
| 300°C | 64 RPM |
| 500°C | 128 RPM |
- Above 500°C temperature difference, the engine overheats.
- Overheating reduces its rotational capacity by 50%.
Thermal Dial Gauge
Monitor temperatures and automate thermal safety.
- Displays the temperature of the block behind it.
- Green: safe operating temperature.
- Amber: shaft warping range.
- Red: melting danger.
- Comparator output provides 1 redstone signal level per 75°C.
Items and Materials
- Thermocouple
- Andesite Insulation Casing
- Molten Copper Bucket
How it fits with Create
Thermodynamics & Heat Conduction expands Create's heating systems into a connected thermal infrastructure.
- Heat: Copper Heat Pipes transfer temperature between connected industrial components.
- Rotation: Thermodynamic Stirling Engines convert thermal differences into rotational power.
- Stress Units: Warped Shafts continue transmitting rotation but consume half the network's stress capacity.
- Fluids: Water Jackets generate Pressurized Steam that can be extracted using Create Pipes and Pumps.
- Processing: Thermal Radiators heat Basins and boilers, improving Mechanical Mixer processing speed.
- Automation: Thermal Dial Gauges provide temperature-based comparator signals for redstone control.
Learn in game
Every complex block includes a complete Ponder scene and the mod has its own dedicated Ponder category.
- Hold W while hovering over an item to open its Ponder scene.
- Learn how to connect, insulate, heat, and cool thermal networks.
- Hold Shift to reveal additional Create-style tooltip information.
Configuration
Three configuration categories are included:
- Client: visual and interface settings.
- Common: general thermal mechanics and gameplay settings.
- Server: server-side temperature and hazard behavior.
Configuration options include:
- Heat source temperatures.
- Shaft warping temperature thresholds.
- Copper melting temperature thresholds.
- Other thermal behavior settings.
Compatibility
Thermodynamics & Heat Conduction works independently and provides direct integrations with other addons:
- Create: Refraction & Optics: Optical Heat Collectors can feed Thermal Absorbers. An alternative recipe also connects the two systems.
- Create: Subterranean Geodes: sufficiently hot blocks can ignite underground methane.
- Create: Bio-Chemical Genetics & Fermentation: extreme heat can ignite Pressurized Bio-Gas.
- Create: Kinetic Metallurgy & Alloy Casting: the Magnetic Induction Crucible counts as an extreme heat source, while Thermal Radiators and Copper Heat Pipes can heat Fluid Casting Channels.
These connections allow multiple industrial systems to share the same thermal infrastructure.
