Configurable Beacons is a proof of concept mod that lets your change some aspects of how beacons work.
Currently it lets you change the way a beacon calculates its range (both horizontal and vertical). If you, like me, like building your bases deep underground this mod is made for you as it'll let you increase the vertical range beneath the beacon.
I plan on adding a way to remove / add valid payement items, if I ever get motivated enough to actually do it.
This mod is optional on both the client and the server.
Is there a way to make beacons work even without direct sky access?
g
what is the file name to edit beacon range ?
In reply to genos303:
configurablebeacons-common.toml, then the properties you want are range_step & base_range
Don't wanna bother, but what do I do with the file once it's downloaded? Putting it in my mods folder leads to a game crash
In reply to dabumsti:
Can you open an issue on this page including the crash report ?

Ok done that, hope it's useful

Hi there!
Can your mod change the applied effects?
Like, I need a becon to make a survival-friendly claiming/defending by using miner's fatigue.
Any chance you can add options for beacons to no longer require sky access, no longer require a base, not display a beam and no longer require ingots to activate?
If you want it to still have the Vanilla feel, you could make it so you have to "sacrifice" an amount of blocks equal to the pyramid, even if it's every time you have to move it. Mining, smelting and compressing all of the iron manually would still be less of a hassle than either killing Wither Skeletons or making a Wither Skeleton farm to get the nether star in the first place, but iron farms completely removes any challenge Mojang was looking to create with that requirement.
I love beacons, but they seem a little silly to use. Every aspect seems to want you to put odd or potentially ugly aspects into your builds. Random 1x1 holes through the world or a building or whatever, giant pyramids built of ugly blocks, a sci-fi beam shooting infinitely into the sky in an otherwise mostly fantasy setting. And I'm convinced the single iron ingot is just there to annoy me personally when I inevitably forget to bring it. I just dropped 100+ ore blocks, what is the point of needing one more ingot?
With all of the OP mods people have made, I'm incredibly surprised I haven't come across one to make a beacon just a single block that doesn't require any BS to use.
1.16.1 version in the works?
In reply to Forge_User_38373982:
Yep, it's done :)
In reply to Ephys:
How do you make the beacons both vertical and horizontal?
Any plans for 1.16.1? I'd LOVE to have this in my vanilla+ modpack!
In reply to IRedcakesI:
Done :)
In reply to Ephys:
Thank you!
How do you change the beacon's range?
In reply to Cyber3300:
It's done through the configuration file (this mod doesn't add any in-game gameplay), you can increase or decrease both the range_step and base_range properties to change the range
I hope to see this mod get ported to 1.15 someday. I'm a big fan of your Magic Feather mod and would love to be able to use them together again.
