Overview
This project is for the Forge mod loader. To see its counterpart for the Fabric mod loader, please go here.
Colytra is a mod that adds the ability to attach an elytra to any chestplate you want, allowing you to reap the benefits of having an elytra without sacrificing the ability to wear your cool-looking armor. Caelus API is a required dependency for versions on Minecraft 1.13.2+.
Elytra Attachment
To attach an elytra to a chestplate, you just have to place them both in a crafting grid. The output will be the chestplate with a tooltip showing that an elytra has been attached to it.
The colytra has three separate modes depending on the configuration option select:
- Normal: The chestplate and elytra exist separately. They each retain their own enchantments and flight will drain the elytra's durability as normal. The elytra component can be repaired using Phantom Membrane in the anvil as normal, along with the approrpriate prior work penalties. Separation is possible by placing the colytra in a crafting grid again.
- Unison: The chestplate and elytra will fuse together and act as one. All enchantments from the elytra will be merged into the chestplate. Flight will drain the chestplate's durability/energy. Separation is not possible.
- Perfect: Same as Unison mode, except that flight will not drain any durability/energy.
1.12.2 Overview:
Colytra is a mod that adds the ability to attach an elytra to any chestplate you want, allowing you to reap the benefits of having an elytra without sacrificing the ability to wear your cool-looking armor. This mod also includes a bauble version of the regular elytra, allowing you to use it as a body bauble when you have Baubles installed alongside it. Also wondering about Quark's dyable elytras? No worries, they're completely compatible!
Features
Attaching Elytra to Chestplate
To attach an elytra to a chestplate, you'll need an anvil. Simply place the chestplate you want to install it on in the left slot and the elytra you want to install in the right slot, and, at the flat fee of 30 levels, bingo! You've got a chestplate with the power of an elytra! A colytra, if you will! Stupid name? Probably!
Some notes about the colytra:
- This fusion is permanent; there is no way to separate them once the process is completed.
- Prior work penalties for both the elytra and the chestplate will be combined into the new colytra, so be wary of using components that have been worked on multiple times already.
- The elytra and chestplate components function as two separate items in terms of durability and repair. Their durabilities are separate and you can repair each component separately using their respective repair methods. Do note, however, that them being on the same item means that work penalties will apply to either of them cumulatively.
- Enchantments from either component will be combined into the new colytra. Unbreaking and Mending work as usual for both the chestplate and elytra components.
- There is a keybinding to toggle the elytra component on/off for the colytra. This will disable all elytra features and basically act just like the regular chestplate.
- The elytra component will, as usual, be disabled when durability drops to 1. It will never destroy itself. However, the chestplate is under no such restriction. If the chestplate gets destroyed, the elytra component will be destroyed as well.
Configuration Options:
Permission Mode - Set how to manage which chestplates can be attached with an elytra ("Blacklist" or "Whitelist")
Item List - A list of items to be either blacklisted/whitelisted
Colytra Durability Mode - How to handle durability of elytras on chestplates
- Normal - Elytras on chestplates will have a separate durability
- Infinite - Elytras on chestplates will not use any durability
- Chestplate - Elytras on chestplates will use the chestplate's durability or energy, whichever is applicable. It will not have its own separate durability.
Disable Bauble - When Baubles is installed, set to false to disable the elytra bauble
Elytra Bauble
If you have Baubles installed, there will be a new elytra body bauble for you to use. The recipe is simply a regular elytra! You can craft them both back and forth at no cost.
I could swear I used to use this mod to allow the Elytra to be enabled/disabled via a button. Does this still exist? If so I cannot find any mention of it in-game, or in the configs. I have a mod that gives double-jumping that becomes useless when I have Elytra on.
In reply to feliixtc:
This feature used to be in the library mod, Caelus API, but was removed in 1.16. I will be releasing a separate mod that has this feature.
In reply to TheIllusiveC4:
Ah, thanks for the quick response. I look forward to the release.
What do you use to repair it the unison and how do you select the configuration?
In reply to coolguy2708:
In unison, you only repair the chestplate. You select the configuration through the configuration file in your world save's `serverconfig` folder.
I have both colytra and caelus in my mods folder and they loaded just fine but when I get on it wont let me craft them. This only happens on my multiplayer server. Does it only work in singleplayer?
Will the mod automatically create recipes for use with modded armor?
In reply to zain_sinclair:
It automatically works for most modded chestplates.
Would it be possible to add compatibility with the Netherite Elytra mod? Currently Netherite Elytra can be added to chestplates, and preserve their increased durability when doing so, but the texture is reverted to normal elytra and throwing the chestplate in lava will burn the elytra.
I found an issue when I use this mod in my vanilla server, I cannot fly with Rockets, and the Rocket animation plays but it doesn't work. I am using other mods and/but disabled this mod and tried and it worked but I didn't disable the other mods though.
In reply to RealBucketio:
Please submit all issues to the issue tracker.
Is this mod client side or server side? Or both?
In reply to xxkamaaryxx:
Both.
Is there a Fabric version?
In reply to RealBucketio:
Yes: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/colytra-fabric
Hi IllusiveC4, I have a question. There is a mod, called Gilded Armor (https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/gildedarmor/files) that interests me. Is it possible to combine the gilded chestplate with an elytra? Just curious. Stay safe! Thanks. :)
In reply to anonymousminecraftrblx:
It should be possible.
is this compatible with ice and fire or gobber armor?
