Coasters: Engineered

Create-style additions for Create: Coasters Simulated — magnetic launch track and more.

Coasters: Engineered

Create-style hardware for Create: Coasters Simulated.

Coasters Simulated gives you real coaster physics. This mod adds the trackside hardware to go with it: a magnetic launch track, magnetic brakes, and a sensor that can actually measure a cart going past.

Magnetic launch track

Right-click an anchorpoint with a Redstone Magnet, then aim along the track and use it again to set how far the run reaches. The stretch you picked fills with stator fins and accelerates passing carts like a linear synchronous motor.

  • Force-based. Thrust goes through the physics engine, so heavier trains accelerate more slowly and the force shows up in the force diagram overlay.
  • You decide where it starts and stops. A run can end partway along a curve or carry on through several, the same way a chain lift spans track.
  • One run, one input. Redstone, the speed slider and the status lamp all sit on the anchorpoint the run starts at.
  • Three directions. The slider's arrows launch away from that anchorpoint, back toward it, or whichever way the cart is already rolling - so one launcher can catch a shuttle on the way back and send it out again.
  • Sneak-right-click with a Wrench to remove, the same way you take a chain lift back off.
  • Launch hum, magnet field particles, and status lamps that light when a run has redstone.

Magnetic brakes

Right-click an anchorpoint with an Iron Sheet and set the run's reach the same way. Its steel fins slow passing carts to the run's Brake Target Speed, from either direction.

  • Trim brakes. Set a speed and the run brings carts down to it. Useful for taking the edge off a drop or settling a train before a corner.
  • Fail-safe, like a powered rail in reverse. The fins brake when unpowered, and redstone at the run's starting anchorpoint switches them off.
  • Bounded. Deceleration is capped, so a train off a big drop needs a real length of brake run to pull down.

Trackside sensor

The existing sensors poll once per block tick, which a cart at speed clears in a fraction of a tick, and they report presence rather than speed. Point a Trackside Sensor across the track and it reports the speed of carts crossing its beam as an analog redstone signal.

  • Catches carts at any speed. Detection runs with the physics rather than the block tick.
  • Speed as a signal. The Max Speed value box sets which speed reads as a full signal. Read it with dust or a comparator; goggles show the last reading in m/s.
  • A pulse for redstone, a number that stays. The signal drops shortly after a cart passes, while the reading holds until the next train.
  • Put it on a board. Point a Display Link at the sensor and pick Cart Speed for a Display Board or Nixie Tubes.
  • Crafted from an Optical Sensor and a Speedometer.

Upgraded carts

Right-click a cart with a Precision Mechanism to upgrade it, or sneak-right-click to revert. One upgrade covers both launch track and brake fins.

Every piece of hardware has an in-game Ponder scene.

No new items

Coasters: Engineered adds no items of its own and exactly one block. Each piece of hardware is applied with an item you already have, picked because it already looks the part: a redstone magnet for the launch stator, an iron sheet for the brake fin, a precision mechanism for the cart. The Trackside Sensor is a block because nothing in the ecosystem can measure a passing cart's speed.

Philosophy

No stations, no block sections, no programmable logic blocks. Create already has a good answer for control logic in redstone, sensors, displays and ComputerCraft. This mod adds the ride hardware and leaves the cleverness to your circuits.

Requirements

Requires Create: Coasters Simulated on NeoForge 1.21.1, which brings Create and Create Simulated with it. Java 21.

Works in single player and on servers. The mod is required on both sides, and all tuning lives in a server-synced config.

Early days

Still early in development. Expect rough edges and the occasional breaking change between versions.
