Chenhai's Equipment Affixes

A mod that provides a rich variety of affixes to enhance weapons and equipment.

Chenhai's Equipment Affixes

Loot with a story. This mod identifies the gear you find and lets you turn it into something worth keeping.

What it does

The first time an eligible melee weapon, axe, bow, or piece of armor enters your inventory, it is identified and rolls 1–3 affixes. From there, the smithing table becomes your progression bench: raise affixes from level I to III, add new affixes to an item, and finally ascend a maxed affix into a much stronger form.

No GUI, no extra item to carry around — identification happens automatically. Affixes are stored on the item itself, so gear keeps its rolls when traded, stored, or carried between dimensions.

Features

  • Automatic identification — eligible gear rolls 1–3 tier-I affixes the first time it enters a player's inventory.
  • 16 affix families — four weapon families, one axe family, four bow families, and seven armor families.
  • Four quality tiers — Common, Fine, Superior, and Legendary. Quality is derived from total affix levels.
  • Smithing progression — 16 craftable promotion templates. Combine a template with an Upgrade Orb to add or level an affix, or with an Ascended Orb to promote a maxed affix.
  • Blue Fire Elites — 1 in 40 hostile mobs spawns with a blue flame, 3x health, and 2x attack. They drop 1–3 Upgrade Orbs and can drop an Ascended Orb.
  • Axe decapitation — axes can roll Decapitation; its ascended form, Beheading, guarantees a head drop.
  • Legendary perks — weapons repair themselves and regenerate their holder; armor gains stacking damage reduction.
  • Optional Patchouli handbook — a complete in-game guide with affix tables, recipes, commands, and quality thresholds.
  • Fully configurable — identification odds, maximum affixes, quality thresholds, orb drops, Blue Fire rates, and enabled families.
  • English and Simplified Chinese included.

How progression works

  1. Identify. Pick up eligible gear. It rolls 1–3 affixes at level I. By default: 75% one, 12.5% two, 12.5% three.
  2. Upgrade. Craft the promotion template for the affix you want. At a smithing table, combine template + Upgrade Orb + equipment.
    • If the item already has that affix, it goes up one level (maximum III).
    • If it does not, the affix is added at level I while the item has fewer than the maximum number of affixes (4 by default).
  3. Ascend. Once an affix is level III, combine the same template with an Ascended Orb to replace it with its ascended form.
  4. Chase quality. Total affix levels determine quality (defaults):
    • Common: 3 or less
    • Fine: 4–6
    • Superior: 7–9
    • Legendary: 10 or more

An ascended affix counts as 4 levels, so a single ascension can push a piece into a higher tier.

Affix families

Melee weapons

  • Durable → Unbreakable — chance to ignore durability loss; the ascended form never loses durability.
  • Sharp → Sever — bonus attack damage; Sever adds a burst of final damage.
  • Nimble → Swift — attack speed.
  • Reach → Ruyi — attack and interaction range.

Axes

  • Axes can roll all four melee families above, plus:
  • Decapitation → Beheading — chance to drop a mob head (10/20/30%); Beheading is guaranteed. Players are excluded by default.

Bows

  • Strong Draw → Army Breaker — arrow damage.
  • Quick String → Instant — faster draw; Instant reaches a full draw immediately.
  • Multishot → Arrow Rain — fire 2–4 arrows (6 for Arrow Rain) while consuming one arrow. The main arrow always flies straight at your crosshair.
  • Pierce → Impale — arrow piercing.

Armor (any piece)

  • Tough → Indestructible — armor durability protection.
  • Shelter → Divine Blessing — damage reduction per piece; Divine Blessing also softens health loss.
  • Nourish → Bounty — bonus maximum health.

Armor (slot-specific)

  • Fish Breath → Aqua Lungs (helmet) — slower or no oxygen consumption.
  • Reflect → Retaliation (chestplate) — return damage to attackers.
  • Jump → Leap (leggings) — higher jumps; Leap also prevents fall damage.
  • Speed → Gallop (boots) — movement speed.

Quality bonuses

  • Weapons: +3 / +6 / +9 attack damage at Fine / Superior / Legendary. Bows receive an equivalent arrow-damage bonus.
  • Armor: +2 / +4 / +6 armor and +1 / +2 / +3 toughness at Fine / Superior / Legendary.
  • Legendary weapons: repair 20 durability per second and restore 1 HP per second while held at full durability.
  • Legendary armor: 30% damage reduction per piece. Four pieces stack to roughly 76%.

Items and drops

  • Upgrade Orb — adds an affix or raises one level. Hostile mobs drop one with a 5% chance by default.
  • Ascended Orb — promotes a level-III affix. Bosses (Ender Dragon and Wither by default) always drop one.
  • Promotion Templates — one per family, crafted from common materials.
  • Orbs are explosion-proof and fire-resistant.

Handbook

Craft a Handbook from a book and an Upgrade Orb, or receive one on your first join. With Patchouli installed it opens a complete illustrated guide; without Patchouli, the item still exists and tells you that Patchouli is required. Everything except the handbook works without Patchouli.

Commands

/chenhai affix ... (permission level 2; targets your main-hand item or optional players):

  • list
  • add <family> <level>
  • remove <family>
  • ascend <family>
  • clear
  • reset

Configuration

config/chenhai_affixes-common.toml:

  • [identification] — two/three-affix chances, maximum affixes, enabled families.
  • [quality] — Fine / Superior / Legendary thresholds.
  • [orbs] — normal orb drop chance and guaranteed boss Ascended Orbs.
  • [blueFire] — spawn chance, modded hostile eligibility, orb counts, Ascended Orb chance.
  • decapitation.affectsPlayers — whether player heads can drop (default false).

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Forge 47.4.22+
  • Patchouli — optional, for the handbook
  • Install on both client and server.

Compatibility

  • No new blocks, dimensions, or world generation. Safe to add to an existing world.
  • Works on dedicated servers.
  • Affixes live in item NBT; items keep their rolls when moved between players and dimensions.
