Codex: Title Scrolls
Find a scroll. Unlock a title. Wear it in chat.
Codex: Title Scrolls, the first of the Codex family, is a collectible player-title system built around loot, not commands. Find a Title Scroll in a chest, right-click it to unlock its title, then open the in-game collection menu to see everything you've found and everything you haven't.
No titles are built in. Every title is a small JSON file you write, so it fits any server: fantasy ranks, meme titles, lore achievements, anything.
✦ The Collection Menu
/title opens a real inventory-style grid, not a text list.
- Unlocked titles show an icon with a rarity-colored border.
- Titles you haven't found are a plain ?. No name, no rarity, no spoilers.
- Click a title to make it your active one. Click it again to take it off. It stays across logins.
- 54 titles per page, with page buttons when you have more.
| Rarity | Border |
|---|---|
| Common | Green |
| Rare | Blue |
| Epic | Purple |
| Legendary | Gold |
| Unique / S-Class | Red |
The border color comes from each title's rarity. The title's own text color is up to you, using & color codes in its display text.
✦ How It Works
- Find a scroll. It's one item for every title. The title it grants is stored on the item itself, so it drops from any loot table: vanilla structures, Lootr chests, or any loot-table mod. Hover over a scroll in any inventory to see its title and rarity before you use it.
- Right-click to unlock. A new title is added to your collection and the scroll is used up. If you already own that title, the scroll is not used up, so you can trade it.
- Open
/titleany time to browse and pick your active title.
✦ Making Your Own Titles
Add a file at data/<your_namespace>/titles/<id>.json:
{
"display": "&6Kitsune",
"rarity": "unique",
"flavor_text": "Outfoxed the impossible.",
"chat_color": "&6"
}
- display (required): the title text.
&color codes work, including several colors for a gradient look. - rarity (optional, default
common): sets the border color in the menu. Usecommon,rare,epic,legendaryorunique. Your loot setup can use it too. - flavor_text (optional): a lore line shown in the menu.
- chat_color (optional): the color of the player's chat messages while they wear the title, e.g.
&bor&#FFD700. Needs a chat mod that reads it. It stays on the server and is never sent to the menu.
Run /reload and new titles are live. No restart needed.
A title's id is its file name (kitsune). If two datapacks use the same file name, the second one is used as namespace:id and a warning is logged.
Give a title from a loot table:
{
"type": "minecraft:item",
"name": "titlescrolls:title_scroll",
"functions": [
{ "function": "minecraft:set_components", "components": { "titlescrolls:grants_title": "kitsune" } }
]
}
Or with a command (OP level 2):
/titlescroll give <player> <title> [amount]
