It's simple, Torches are not forever!
Burning Torches adds new torches to the game that burn out over time, Gone are the days of place it and forget it! As they burn out you can extend the life by using planks or coal (by default) on the torch. Otherwise you can use an empty bucket (by default) on the torch to put it out so it won't burn up when it's not needed. They can easily be lit again with a flint and steel (by default).
Vanilla torches still exist in any world generation but as of V1.0.1 what they drop can be edited and the vanilla torch recipe is removed but can be enabled in the config or edited via datapack.
Features:
- Configurable burn time!
- Torch extinguishing/relighting, with configurable tools!
- Configurable extinguishing in weather!
- Configurable light levels! (1.12.2 & 1.16.4+ only)
- Configurable Items to feed the torches so they last longer!
- Configurable drops when the torch is broken!
- Disable Vanilla torch crafting!
- Changes Vanilla torch drops! #WeCanStopTheCheese
- Torches emit lots of smoke before burning out!
- Configurable lighting entities on fire when standing on the torch! (V1.0.5+)
- Configurable lighting blocks on fire when next to the torch! (V1.0.5+)
- Configurable placing of unlit torches instead of lit! (V1.0.5+)
- Pumpkins that also burn! (V1.1.0+) Keeps you safe and won't go out in the rain!
- Tag support for all the needs of any torch master!
- Torches that burn up leave behind soot marks so you can easily replace them! (V4.0.0+)
- Llamas now hate being burned and will take care of any open flames! (V4.0.0+)
Do torches burn out over time while holding them? I want to use this with a mod that makes it so held torches emit light
In reply to whatami1:
No.
In reply to Claycorp:
Thank you for the quick response! Do you know if it's possible to make that happen via datapacks?
In reply to whatami1:
Possibly? You could likely some how track how long someone is holding a torch and store it in the scoreboard and then remove an item after X time.
I don't really work with datapacks to that extent though as I'd rather just make a mod at that point :P
In reply to whatami1:
Have you found Hardcore Torches yet?
Hey, unfortunatelly your torches doesn't produce light in my modpack. I've chcked config file and everything is ok, I don't have any other mods that change light and also disabled shaders. Could you help me please?
In reply to DzikiGoblin:
Need to be more specific What game version, what mod version
In reply to Claycorp:
MC ver. 1.16.5 and recent mod ver. 2.2.0
In reply to DzikiGoblin:
Works fine for me? Just downloaded a fresh copy on CF and they give light. Did you edit the config and are placing unlit torches?
In reply to Claycorp:
Hey! I've just discovered the issue. It was OptiFine mod which caused the problem. It might be because with optifine torches emit light while in hands. Is there any chance you can make those two mods working togheter? I need optifine to use shaders :D Optifine version was 1.16.5_HD_U_G8. I couldn't test with G7 ver. because my game shares with it probably becasue of other mods.
In reply to DzikiGoblin:
Nope. There's nothing I can do about it. Optifine is breaking this mod as i'm just using vanilla light systems.
Do campfires and lanterns also burn out? Also, could you maybe add, like, a crafting recipe for a vanilla torch? Like, you get your modded torch and add a said material, for example glowstone dust to it and it makes a forever lasting torch (vanilla torch), something like Realistic Torches (RT)? Cause both RT and this mod are good and I pick this mod over RT cause its easier to make normal torches in this mod and RT is also not for 1.18.1 but I'm curious what light sources are infinite and which are not apart from the torch added by your mod.
In reply to alexxela250:
Only Jack o Lanterns and Torches have alternate options that burn out. Anything generated in-world will not be replaced with my alternative objects.
Campfires, lanterns, redstone lamps and other lights are all infinite light.
You can easily add or change any recipes you like with a datapack or by using a recipe editing mod. I have no plans to re-add vanilla torches myself, if you would like infinite light sources I'd recommend lamps and lanterns.
In reply to Claycorp:
Alright, thanks for the info!
Haven't used this in a while since 1.12, planning to use it on 1.16.5
this mod does everything I want it to, but is there any way of using the vanilla torch texture for the modded torches? i want vanilla looking torches with this mods functionality
thanks :)
In reply to SovLV:
Uhh... Not exactly without some modification as these torches are slightly taller. All you need to do is use a resource pack to change the texture on it though.
They don't modify the vanilla torches very specifically due to the issues it can cause and to allow people to still use them in packs if need be.
Just open the vanilla torch texture in a program and overlay it over the mod's textures. Copy and paste like the bottom 4 pixels of the vanilla torch to extend it to the right size and it will look just like vanilla.
Glad to see repeat users coming for it!
Thanks for making this mod! I much prefer it over Realistic Torches, the fact that the list of items that can relight torches is configurable saved me a lot of pain.
Really minor spelling issue, the torch remains are called "Chared Torch Remains" instead of "Charred Torch Remains". The spelling of the actual item ID is fine however.
Easily fixed with crafttweaker but just thought I'd mention it.
In reply to MuckyMonkey:
*yay dyslexia....*
I'll add a note to fix that whenever I work on it next.
i like just the description of this mod saying "Ever wanted torches to fade away like your hopes and dreams?" because its true
Hiii
Does this still work on 1.16.4 or 5? :)
