📜 Bubblify Mod — Patch Notes
Version 1.7 — Bubble Rendering Improvements 💬✨
🛠️ Rendering Changes
-
Reworked the Bubble Chat rendering pipeline to improve in-world visual stability.
-
Moved bubble rendering to the
RenderLevelStageEventflow. -
Bubbles are now rendered during the
AFTER_PARTICLESstage. -
Added camera-relative positioning so speech bubbles remain attached above the correct player.
-
Added interpolated player coordinates using
partialTickfor smoother movement while walking, jumping, or moving quickly. -
Improved billboard behavior so each bubble continues to face the player’s camera.
👥 Visibility Improvements
-
Speech bubbles now render above nearby players, mobs, dropped items, and particles.
-
Added depth-test disabling during bubble rendering to prevent entities from appearing in front of the bubble.
-
Disabled depth-buffer writing for bubbles, preventing them from incorrectly hiding later-rendered visual elements.
-
Restored the normal rendering state after each bubble pass to reduce conflicts with Minecraft rendering, shaders, and other mods.
🎨 Bubble Visuals
-
Added a custom pixel-style rounded bubble background.
-
Added a black outer border for better readability.
-
Added a speech-tail pointer beneath each bubble.
-
Preserved custom RGB bubble colors selected by players.
-
Bubble text can still be configured to use either white or black coloring.
-
Added full-bright text rendering so messages remain readable in dark areas. 🌙
💬 Message Behavior
-
Active bubbles remain visible for 300 ticks.
-
Players can have up to 3 visible messages at the same time.
-
When a fourth message is received, the oldest bubble is removed automatically.
-
Multiple bubbles are displayed vertically, with smooth spacing transitions.
-
Bubble colors are sanitized to RGB format before being stored or synchronized. 🎨
⚙️ Network and Stability
-
Improved client-side bubble creation through the centralized
ClientForgeEvents.addBubble(...)method. -
Maintained packet-based synchronization between server and clients.
-
Preserved the 256-character message limit for network safety.
-
Added safer rendering-state handling recommendations to prevent graphical issues if a render error occurs.
🧪 Compatibility
-
Improved compatibility with shader-based rendering setups.
-
Designed to work more reliably with Forge 1.20.1 rendering behavior.
-
Recommended testing setup: Forge 1.20.1 + Embeddium + Oculus + preferred shader pack. 🌌
⚠️ Known Limitation
-
Because depth testing is disabled, speech bubbles may be visible through blocks, walls, terrain, and other world geometry.
-
This is intentional in the current implementation to ensure the bubble remains readable and is not hidden by nearby mobs or players. 👁️
