What's new

Brutally Realistic 1.4.0

Minecraft 26.2, NeoForge and Fabric. Existing worlds are fine (see "Existing mills" below).

Mills, rebuilt at full size

The mills of 1.3.0 were single small blocks with painted animations, and their axles did not line up. They are now real structures with moving parts.

Windmill

  • The Windmill Bearing is the head of the mill: put it on top of a tower. Its shaft comes out the front.
  • Build Windmill Sails block by block in the plane just in front of the bearing, in any shape: a classic cross, four blades, a wide fan… Sails must touch each other and the cell in front of the bearing.
  • Right-click the bearing with an empty hand: the sails are assembled and the whole rotor turns as one piece, with its hub and crossed stocks. Sneak and right-click to take the sails down again (they go back where they were).
  • Power grows with the sail area: at least 8 sails to turn, full power at 32. The local wind does the rest (starts at 3 m/s, full power at 12 m/s, sails furled from 25 m/s).
  • The disc swept by the sails must be clear, ground included: build it high enough.
  • Power comes out of the back of the bearing and out of its bottom, so a shaft can run straight down the tower.
  • Right-click an assembled windmill to read its sails, the wind and its power.

Water wheel

  • The Water Wheel is now a 3×3 wheel: two side frames with eight spokes each, eight paddles and a log hub. Place it facing the way the wheel should face; it needs a free 3×3 square (air or water). Aimed at the ground, it lifts itself one block so that its bottom row sits just above the ground or the water.
  • The bottom of the wheel must dip into moving water: flowing water, or a river current.
  • Shafts connect to both ends of the hub. Breaking any part of the wheel takes down the whole wheel.

Shafts, gearbox and machines

  • Axles now actually turn, and line up with the bearing, the wheel hub and the machines. An axle placed against a mill or a machine snaps to its shaft.
  • New Gearbox: passes power to all six sides. Use it to turn a corner or to send the windmill's power down the tower.
  • Power travels through up to 32 axles and gearboxes (2 % loss each); a machine takes the best mill on its network.
  • Millstone: the runner stone turns on its bed stone, and a shaft can drive it from above. Sawmill: the circular blade spins. Bellows and the loom still work off the same network.

Existing mills

  • An old 1×1 water wheel rebuilds itself as a 3×3 wheel if there is room around it; otherwise it stays still until you make room.
  • An old windmill becomes a bearing with no sails: build sails in front of it and right-click it.

Fixes

  • Machines at some positions in the world never picked up their power (a negative remainder in the timing check). Fixed.

Recipes

  • Water Wheel: 4 logs, 4 planks, 1 wrought iron ingot.
  • Windmill Bearing: logs, wrought iron, planks, an axle and cobblestone.
  • Windmill Sails (×6): 6 sticks and 3 linen.
  • Gearbox: 8 planks around a wrought iron ingot.
