What's new

Brutally Realistic 1.3.0

Minecraft 26.2, NeoForge and Fabric. Existing worlds are fine, no new world needed.

Butchering with a real goal

Butchering used to mean holding right-click for a minute and a half. Now it is a short skill game, and how well you do it decides what you get.

  • Right-click a carcass with a knife to open the butchering board. Each step is a gesture:
    • stick the throat when the circle closes on the target;
    • follow the skinning line with the blade without leaving it;
    • open the belly around the guts without piercing them;
    • cut through each joint;
    • strike the bones;
    • take the fat, the tendons and the brain.
  • Better knives and the Hunter skill give you more room for error. A crude flint flake drags; a metal knife glides.
  • What your precision decides:
    • Torn hide: half of it is lost. Flawless hide: one more piece to tan.
    • Pierced guts: no offal, and the meat spoils sooner.
    • More or less meat, bones, fat and sinew: from ×0.6 to ×1.2.
  • New products:
    • Offal: liver, heart and kidneys. Rich in vitamins, they spoil in a day. Cook them on a campfire.
    • Brain: rubbed into a scraped hide, it replaces the bark and halves the tanning time.
    • Hunting trophies: antlers, horns, boar tusks, bear skull and predator pelts, only from a flawless job (80 % clean). Hang them in item frames at your camp to lift morale.
  • The old hold-to-butcher mode is still available in the config (food.butchering.minigame).

Protected camps

  • Inside a tribe's camp, outsiders can't break, place or open anything, can't use buckets or flint and steel, and can't touch item frames, armor stands or livestock. Explosions don't destroy blocks in a camp.
  • Benches and trading posts stay open to everyone.
  • Camps can no longer overlap, so no tribe can claim another's camp.
  • Option tribe.camp_protection: always (default), only while no member is online, or off.

Trading posts

  • Set up to four offers ("this for that") on a trading post, stock it, and others trade with it even while you are offline. Payments land in the till.
  • Only the owner and their tribe see the stock and the till, and only they can break the post.

Husbandry

  • Farm animals start wild and flee from you. Feed one by hand, once a minute, to win its trust. At 100 % it joins your herd and your tribe's, and stops fleeing from you.
  • Domestic animals get hungry:
    • they graze on grass outside winter;
    • in winter, or away from grass, they eat at a feeding trough filled with hay, grain or roots;
    • rain and winter nights outside wear them down, except sheep in their wool;
    • starving animals weaken and die.
  • Spring births: healthy domestic animals give birth once a year in spring. This replaces breeding by hand.
  • Wild cows won't let you milk them.
  • Crouch and right-click an animal with an empty hand to check on it.

Winter food: fermentation

  • Fermentation crock (fired clay):

    • 4 cabbages and salt: sauerkraut;
    • 4 turnips, onions, carrots or beetroots and salt: pickled vegetables;
    • a bucket of milk and salt: cheese.

    Fermented food keeps for months.

  • Beer: 6 wheat and water in the salting barrel, alongside mead and cider.

Travel for each age

  • Travois (stone age): drag 18 slots of goods behind you anywhere, at a cost (−25 % speed).
  • Sled: glides on snow and helps on ice, but drags hard anywhere else.

After iron: steel

  • Pack wrought iron and charcoal into a clay cementation box and keep it above 900 °C in a forge hearth for 10 minutes. Break it open once cool: two steel ingots.
  • Forge steel tool heads on the iron anvil, then quench them hot, or the tool stays soft (−40 % durability).
  • Steel tools last 900 uses (iron: 250) and mine everything diamond mines.

Mills

  • Water wheels turn in moving water: flowing water or a river current. Windmills turn with the local wind, and their sails are furled in storms.
  • Axles carry the power up to 16 blocks.
  • Driven machines:
    • millstone: wheat to flour, bones to bone meal, cane to sugar;
    • sawmill: one log to 6 planks;
    • bellows: pump by themselves;
    • loom: weaves three times faster.
  • Hoppers can feed and empty the millstone and the sawmill.

Workshops

  • Potter's wheel: pots, jugs, crocks and cementation boxes thrown on the wheel never crack in the kiln.
  • Blowpipe: on a forge hearth at 1000 °C, one glass block makes 3 bottles, or 4 panes when sneaking.

Also

  • New advancements:
    • Clean Kill (trophy);
    • Fair Exchange (trade);
    • Herdsman (tame);
    • Spring Births;
    • Sour and Sound (crock);
    • Beast of Burden (travois or sled);
    • Steel;
    • The Mill Turns.
  • The Survival Journal now ends with steel.
