Block Lock

Pick any block in Minecraft you never want to break by accident, right from an in-game menu. Also protects unripe crops, growing amethyst buds and suspicious sand or gravel. Hold Shift to break anyway. Fabric, 26.2.

Block Lock

Ever mined the wrong block? Smashed a row of wheat one swing too early? Destroyed the treasure inside a suspicious block? With Block Lock, you decide which blocks can't be broken, and you do it from a simple menu in the game.

How it works

  1. Press G in game (you can change the key in Controls) to open the Block Lock menu.
  2. Click "Choose the blocks I never want to break".
  3. Search for a block (for example "diamond" or "spawner") and tick it. That's it: left-clicking this block now does nothing.
  4. Untick it any time to be able to break it again.

The list includes every block in the game. "Ticked only" shows just the blocks you chose, so you can review your list.

Hold Shift to break a protected block anyway. You can turn this off in the menu if you want the lock to be absolute.

Ready-to-use protections (checkboxes)

  • Unripe crops can't be broken. Wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, nether wart, cocoa beans, stems, torchflower and pitcher plant stay safe until fully grown. Ripe crops break and drop as usual.
  • Growing amethyst buds can't be broken. Small, medium and large buds are protected. Fully grown clusters break normally, so your geode farm keeps working.
  • Suspicious sand and suspicious gravel can't be broken. Breaking them destroys the item hidden inside. Use a brush instead: brushing is not blocked.
  • Small hitbox for young crops. Aim at the soil between unripe plants and replant right away, without your crosshair getting caught on the neighbouring plants.

Young crops stay low

Unripe crops (wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, nether wart) are displayed as a low carpet that still covers the whole block. In a big field, any block where you forgot to plant shows up right away as bare soil. Once a crop is ripe, it returns to its normal height, so you can see at a glance what's ready to harvest.

This look comes from a built-in resource pack, enabled by default. You can turn it off in Options > Resource Packs.

Multiplayer

  • Put the mod on the server and nobody can break the protected blocks, even players who don't have the mod.
  • Put it on the client too to get the menu, the low crops and the small hitbox, and to avoid a block briefly disappearing on your screen.
  • On a server, the menu changes your own game. The server's rules come from config/block_lock.json on the server.
  • The mod adds no new blocks or items, so players without it can still join your server.

Requirements

Stops you from breaking crops that aren't fully grown. Young crops are shown low but covering the whole block, with a tiny hitbox, so gaps are easy to spot and replanting is easy. Hold Shift to break one anyway. Fabric, Minecraft 26.3.
