Description
Biome Bosses
Hand-crafted boss fights for the newest vanilla places. Every boss lives in a real vanilla biome or structure and fights with that place's own mechanics, so it feels like part of Minecraft, not a random RPG add-on.
Boss #1: The Trial Sentinel
The Trial Chambers finally have a guardian. The Trial Sentinel is a 4-block-tall copper automaton built from copper plates over a tuff-brick frame, with a glowing trial-spawner core in its chest.
How to fight it
- Craft a Sentinel Core: a Trial Key in the middle, 4 Blocks of Copper and 4 Breeze Rods around it.
- Use it on the ground: the Sentinel kneels, powers up its core and stands up with a roar. It is invulnerable while it wakes up.
- Phase 1: heavy punches, a Ground Slam shockwave (jump over it to take half damage) and the Gale Volley, a burst of wind charges fired from its chest.
- Phase 2 (below 66% health): it roars, opens trial-spawner rifts that bring in zombies, skeletons, boggeds and husks, and starts using the Gale Leap to land on players who kite it or pillar up.
- Phase 3 (below 33% health): faster, harder hits and ominous reinforcements, including strays and breezes.
Oxidation: the signature mechanic
The longer the fight goes, the more the Sentinel oxidizes (Copper → Exposed → Weathered → Oxidized). Each stage makes it tougher (+15% damage reduction) and stronger (+15% damage), but slower.
Hit it with an axe to scrape the oxidation off. Each scrape removes one stage and staggers it: it drops to one knee, its core shutters slam shut, and it takes +50% damage for a few seconds.
Punch its wind charges back at it. A deflected gale deals double damage to the Sentinel and staggers it too.
Loot
- Gale Core (always): right-click for a gale burst jump that launches you up and forward and blows nearby mobs away. There is no fall damage from the jump, like a wind charge jump, and a 3-second cooldown.
- 12–24 Copper Ingots, 3–6 Breeze Rods
- 60% chance: Ominous Trial Key
- 20% chance: Heavy Core
- 35% chance: a rare trial chambers item (Flow or Guster banner pattern, Creator music disc, Bolt armor trim)
- 300 XP and 3 advancements (Who Turned That On?, Rust in Peace, Gale Rider)
Details
- Boss bar whose color follows the oxidation stage
- Fully animated: awakening, walking, punches, slam, volley with a pulsing core, summoning, leap and landing, staggered kneel and a collapse-and-explode death
- Emissive core, eyes and wind intakes that glow in the dark
- It stays near the place where it was summoned, repairs itself when nobody is fighting it and despawns its reinforcements when it dies
- Immune to poison, wither, slowness and weakness, and takes half damage from explosions, so no cheap tricks
