Description
Better Combat Kick
Kick your enemies and break down doors. A server-authoritative kick attack with three kick types, alternating legs, and a leg animation that is visible in first person.
Why this mod ?
Better Combat adds weapons and attacks, but never a real kick. Better Combat Kick fills that gap with a single key: Kick. Press it and your character throws a real, animated kick that damages and knocks back whatever is in front of you.
Depending on how you are moving when you press the key, you get one of three different kicks, each with its own damage, knockback, speed and cooldown. The mod is designed as a companion to the Better Combat mod family: it reuses its swing sound, and Better Combat must be installed.
Every kick is validated by the server, so the mod behaves the same in singleplayer and multiplayer, and other players see your animation.
What the mod does
Three kicks, picked automatically
| Kick | How to trigger it | Damage | Knockback | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal kick | Standing still or walking, tap the Kick key (the kick goes out when you release it) | 1.2 | Light | 1 second |
| Sprint kick | Sprint on the ground, then press the Kick key | 1.45 | Strong | 1.5 seconds |
| Sprint-jump kick | Sprint, jump, and press the Kick key in the air | 1.75 | Very strong | 2 seconds |
These are the default values and can all be changed in the configuration. The kick reaches about 2 blocks in front of you. The Weakness effect is taken into account: the stronger the Weakness, the weaker your kick.
Alternating legs
- Consecutive kicks alternate between your right and left leg, as long as you chain them within a short time window (2.5 seconds by default).
- If you wait longer, you start again with your right leg.
Animations you can actually see
- Other players, and you in third-person view, see a full body animation: the leg swings up while the arms and torso counter-balance.
- In first person, you see your own leg come up from the bottom of the screen. It uses your real skin, your pants layer, and the leggings and boots you are wearing (including dyed leather).
- Your hand and held item stay visible: they simply move down a little to make room for the leg.
- Holding a TaCZ weapon? The kick only moves your legs, so it never disturbs the weapon-holding pose.
Door and padlock kicking
- Wooden and simple doors open with a single kick.
- Metal doors (iron, steel, copper, netherite, gold, and many more, detected automatically from their name) resist: they need several consecutive kicks in quick succession to give way. The stronger the kick, the fewer you need (by default: 3 normal kicks, 2 sprint kicks, or just 1 sprint-jump kick). Stop kicking for 5 seconds and the door forgets your progress.
- Forcing a door costs you a little damage on each hit. Brute force has a price, but you can turn this off in the configuration.
- With SA Decor, a forcing kick can also break a padlock.
- Doors from other mods are handled automatically. You can fine-tune this with whitelists, a blacklist and keywords in the configuration.
Spiked Point enchantment
A single-level boots enchantment that adds extra damage to every kick, whichever kick type lands (+1.0 by default). You can get it at the enchanting table and from villagers.
Common-sense restrictions
By default, you cannot kick while riding something (horse, boat, minecart, modded vehicles), while climbing a ladder or vine, or during an active ParCool parkour action. Each restriction can be turned off in the configuration.
Key
The Kick key is C by default. You can change it in Options > Controls > Better Combat Kick.
Compatibility (optional)
Everything below is optional. If the other mod is not installed, the matching feature simply stays inactive.
| Mod | What it adds |
|---|---|
| ParCool | Kicking is blocked during a parkour action (vault, wall climb, slide…). Plain Fast Run does not block the kick, so you can kick while running fast. |
| TaCZ (Timeless and Classics Zero) | When you hold a TaCZ weapon, the kick uses a legs-only animation. |
| Legendary Survival Overhaul | Kicking can consume thirst, and the damage you take from forcing a door can hit a random foot or leg through LSO's body-part injury system, instead of your normal health. |
| Stamina For Tweakers | Kicking can cost stamina, based on that mod's values. |
| SA Decor | A forcing kick can break a padlock on a door. |
Each of these compatibilities has its own switch in the configuration.
Requirements
- Requires Player Animator (it draws the kick animations)
- Requires Better Combat
- Install on both the client and the server
What's configurable
Everything can be adjusted from the in-game mod configuration screen, or in config/bettercombatkick-common.toml. Durations are in ticks (20 ticks = 1 second).

FAQ
Can I turn the mod off without removing it? Yes. The modEnabled setting disables every kick and door kicking at once. You can also disable each kick type separately.
Does the kick work on every door from other mods? Doors are recognized through Minecraft's standard door block. Metal doors are recognized by keywords in their name, and you can add your own exceptions in the configuration with the whitelists and the blacklist.
Can I kick while running with ParCool? Yes. Fast Run does not block the kick. Real parkour actions (vaulting, wall climbing…) do, unless you turn that restriction off.
