Break one block. Lose the whole chunk.
Every time a player breaks a block, every other block in that 16x16 chunk, from the bottom of the world to the build limit, turns into bedrock. The ground, the ores, the trees and almost everything you built there become bedrock with one swing of the pickaxe. Air stays air, so caves and the sky stay open. Plants, water, lava and small blocks like torches and doors are left where they were.
How far can you get when every block you mine costs you a chunk?
Warning: this mod permanently destroys your world.
Blocks that turn into bedrock are gone for good, and so is everything stored in them (chests, barrels, shulker boxes, furnaces...). Converted blocks drop nothing. Play on a new world or back up your world first, and never add this mod to a world you care about.
How it works
- A player breaks a block. That block drops as usual. The game mode doesn't matter, and neither does the block: breaking a flower or a torch counts too.
- At the end of that server tick, every block in the chunk, from the lowest to the highest Y, becomes bedrock, except the ones listed under What stays.
- Break a block in another chunk and the same thing happens there.
It works in every dimension. Only players trigger it. Explosions, pistons, mobs and commands like /setblock don't, and neither do breaks that were cancelled or failed. Machines from other mods that break blocks as a "fake player" may count as a player.
Requirements
- Minecraft Java Edition 26.2 and Java 25
- Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer and Fabric API
- NeoForge: NeoForge 26.2.0.88 or newer
Download the file for your loader and put it in your mods folder.
- Singleplayer: install it and create a new world.
- Multiplayer: the mod runs on the server, so it must be installed there. Installing it on every player's client too is recommended; joining without it has not been tested.
In the mod list it shows up as Bedrock Chunks. Its mod ID, which is also its datapack namespace, is bedrockcraft.
What stays
- Air and fluids: air, water, lava, bubble columns
- Plants: flowers, short and tall grass, ferns, bushes, short and tall dry grass, leaf litter, saplings, crops and their stems, sweet berry bushes, cocoa, nether wart, vines of every kind, glow lichen, hanging roots, pale hanging moss, moss carpets, sugar cane, cactus, bamboo, dripleaf, chorus plants, mushrooms and fungi, crimson and warped roots, nether sprouts
- Water plants: seagrass, kelp, sea pickles, lily pads, corals and coral fans, dead ones too (coral blocks become bedrock)
- Huge mushroom caps: brown and red mushroom blocks, nether and warped wart blocks, shroomlights (mushroom stems become bedrock)
- A few special blocks: tripwire, resin clumps, sculk veins, cobwebs, beds, cakes (with or without candles), bells, copper golem statues
- Small blocks: any block whose default shape, as if placed on its own, fills less than 30% of a full block. For example torches, lanterns, iron chains, iron bars, glass panes, flower pots, buttons, levers, pressure plates, rails, redstone wire, repeaters, comparators, carpets, candles, heads and skulls, doors, trapdoors, ladders, scaffolding, signs, banners, fences, fence gates, walls, shelves, brewing stands, amethyst buds and clusters, pointed dripstone, end rods, lightning rods and nether portals. Fences and walls are measured unconnected, so every piece of a fence or wall line gets the same result.
- Thin snow: 1 or 2 layers of snow
What becomes bedrock
- Every other full block: stone, dirt, grass blocks, sand, ores, logs, planks, glass...
- All leaves, including cherry leaves and (flowering) azalea leaves
- Snow with 3 or more layers, and powder snow
- Bigger partial blocks (30% of a block or more): slabs, stairs, chests, hoppers, anvils, grindstones, cauldrons, campfires, lecterns, composters, stonecutters, enchanting tables, decorated pots, daylight detectors, end portal frames and end portals
Good to know
- Timing: the chunk converts at the end of the server tick in which the block was broken. Several breaks in the same chunk in one tick convert it once.
- Loaded chunks only: only chunks that are loaded at that moment are changed. The mod never loads or generates chunks.
- Contents are deleted: what was inside a converted block (chest items, jukebox discs...) is deleted, not dropped. Blocks that stay keep theirs, like sign text or a brewing stand's items.
- Plants lose their ground: kept plants stay for now, but the dirt, farmland or sand under them is bedrock. When they grow or something next to them changes, they break by normal vanilla rules and drop as items. Farms can fall apart within minutes.
- Attached blocks hold on: torches, doors, rails, bells, cakes and other blocks standing on or hanging from a solid face stay attached to the bedrock. Nether portals keep working even though their frame is bedrock.
- Bubble columns turn into plain water on their next block update, because the soul sand or magma block below is now bedrock.
- Waterlogged blocks that become bedrock lose their water.
- Ender pearls: a thrown ender pearl inside a spot that just became bedrock is removed, so it can't teleport its owner into bedrock. Pearls in the air or inside a block that stays (water, an open trapdoor, a cobweb) are left alone, including pearls in stasis chambers.
- Trees keep growing: saplings still grow on bedrock. The new logs and leaves turn into bedrock the next time a block is broken in that chunk. A growing tree doesn't turn the bedrock under its trunk into dirt, except azaleas grown with bone meal, which turn it into rooted dirt.
- Multiplayer and saving: everyone sees the change right away, lighting is updated and the chunk is saved normally. Conversions still waiting when the server stops are cancelled.
Customise it with a datapack
There is no config file. Two block tags control what happens instead:
data/bedrockcraft/tags/block/never_converted.json: blocks that always staydata/bedrockcraft/tags/block/always_converted.json: blocks that always become bedrock, even if they are small
Put a file at the same path in your datapack. Each entry is a block ID ("minecraft:bell") or a block tag ("#minecraft:logs"). Like any datapack tag, it applies when the world loads or after /reload.
Example: keep logs and leaves (data/bedrockcraft/tags/block/never_converted.json)
{
"values": [
"#minecraft:logs",
"#minecraft:leaves"
]
}
Example: turn walls into bedrock (data/bedrockcraft/tags/block/always_converted.json)
{
"values": [
"#minecraft:walls"
]
}
Tips:
- Your file adds to the default list. To replace the default list completely, add
"replace": true. - If a block is in both tags,
never_convertedwins. - If you replace
always_converted, keepminecraft:moving_pistonin it. A block being pushed by a piston looks empty to the size check, so without this entry it would be kept. - To keep flowers, use
#minecraft:small_flowersor single block IDs, not#minecraft:flowers: that tag also contains cherry leaves and flowering azalea leaves. - If you keep leaves, leaves whose logs became bedrock can slowly decay, as in vanilla.
- Blocks from other mods are judged by their default shape too. If a modded block stays but shouldn't, add it to
always_converted.
Known limitations
- Chunk borders: blocks reaching into the next chunk are not updated. For example, a piston head in the neighbouring chunk stays until that chunk is converted too.
- Leaves next door: leaves in a neighbouring chunk whose tree trunk became bedrock can slowly decay and drop saplings, sticks and apples.
- Entities: item frames, paintings and leash knots are entities, not blocks, so they are not converted. They may drop as items later.
- Suffocation: players and mobs inside the chunk can get stuck in bedrock and suffocate.
- Offline pearl owners: while a pearl's owner is logged out, the pearl is stored with the player, not in the world, so it can't be removed. When the owner logs back in, it may teleport them into bedrock.
- Lag spikes: converting a completely full chunk takes a few hundredths of a second. Breaking blocks in many chunks in the same tick can cause a short lag spike.

- Minecraft Java Edition 26.2, Java 25
- Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.19.5 이상과 Fabric API
- NeoForge: NeoForge 26.2.0.88
모드 ID(데이터팩 네임스페이스)는 bedrockcraft입니다.
data/bedrockcraft/tags/block/never_converted.json: 항상 남길 블록data/bedrockcraft/tags/block/always_converted.json: 작아도 항상 기반암으로 바꿀 블록
첫 번째 예시는 never_converted.json에 넣어 원목과 나뭇잎을 남기고, 두 번째 예시는 always_converted.json에 넣어 담장을 기반암으로 바꿉니다.
never_converted가 우선합니다. always_converted를 통째로 바꿀 때도minecraft:moving_piston은 꼭 남겨 두세요.
always_converted에 추가하세요.
