Russian banya in its full glory: steam, sweat and birch leaves.
Banya Day adds Russian bathhouse to Minecraft. Not a decorative set of blocks - full-blown functional banya! Stones in the stove will heat. Water splash onto the stones - you have steam. Steam warms up the room. Room warms you up. Your body temperature is measured to 0.1. Perfect range from 38 to 40°C gives the best results.
So, build steam room from linden planks. Go on a top bench. Get birch whisk. Then go outside and jump into the snow! Wait - you have forgotten your sheet! Next 5 minutes you'll sneeze.
The stove
All the banya are centered around kamenka (stove). You have 3 of them. They heat stones with maximum:
Village stove (from brick). Up to 60°C. Steam for beginners - it's mild. Cast-iron stove. Up to 90°C. Warms up quicker. Elite stove (soapstone). Up to 120°C. For pros.
All stoves use any furnace fuel (or lava bucket - it will be returned. up to 20 minutes of fuel. Can be filled by hopper. Check stone temperature and fuel with empty hand right-click.
If you keep it all blazing on full temperature with no water - it will start smoking. And eventually it will set nearby wood to fire. Spray water on stones once a minute at least. Full bucket of water extinguishes the fire. And huge steam cloud.
Steam room
Steam room is multiblock. Build it of bath (linden) or cedar planks (walls/floor/ceiling). Install controller in wall (on inside) - it must be placed on wall. Put in stove. And controller lamp will turn green. Right click controller to check room size, temperature, humidity, current aroma and problems if steam room won't form.
Size: min. 3x3x3 inside. Max. 512 air blocks (can be configured). Walls: planks. Can also be doors, glass, glass pane, hatches. Bath door and steam room door are considered as walls. Ventilation: if you have open vent hatch or door - steam and heat will escape. And aromas will dissipate quicker. Warm air rises: warmer it is for your head above floor - the higher it is.
Water and steam
YYou have tubs (chan) for water. Also you can heat it with stove up to 3 blocks away. Wooden (3 buckets) / copper (5 buckets - heats up the fastest) / obsidian (8 buckets - barely cools down). Fill it with buckets or pipes. Create pipes are supported. You can even get in tubs. Hot water will warm you up. Cold will cool you down.
Ladle: scoop 250mb from tub. Splash on stones. Here's your steam. It won't steam if temperature on stones is below 45°C. Ushat: small tub. Made of wood. Has full bucket of water. Use it to pour on yourself. Cold water instantly drops body temperature by 2.5°C. "Whoo!"
If you put mint, thyme or linden blossom in tub - it will gain aroma. Splash on stones. It will affect everyone in room.
Mint: room temperature will feel like it's 8°C cooler. And you'll gain Haste.
Thyme: Regeneration.
Linden: Absorption.
Birch: Speed.
Oak: Resistance.
Juniper: cleanses poison, wither, hunger.
Eucalyptus: Night Vision. Also, it cures cold.
Benches and whisks
Benches (polok). 3 types of height: low, middle and high. High bench has headrest. Row of benches turns into a long bench. You can place them like stairs. Right click to sit. Shift to stand up. Banya Spirit increases 25% faster while sitting.
Whisk (venik). This is what makes it banya. Only in heated steam room (min. 40°C). Use it on yourself or other players/mobs. You get Steaming. Regeneration and lower damage.
Birch. Classic.
Oak. Adds Resistance.
Juniper. Cleans negative effects.
Eucalyptus. Night Vision. Also, it cures cold.
If you soak a whisk in tub with 50°C+ water - next 12 swings will be stronger/longer. And aroma will be in water. Also whisk will get trained with each swing. It has 5 levels of mastery. And fully mastered whisk will start to shine.
Body Temperature
Inside the banya a thermometer appears on screen, along with the room temperature, humidity, aroma and your Banya Spirit.
- 36.6°C: normal.
- 38–40°C: the optimum. Banya Spirit builds up.
- Above 41°C: nausea, weakness and a chance to pass out for a few seconds.
- 42°C: the limit. Get out.
To cool down, step outside, pour an ushat over your head, rub yourself with a snowball, drink mint tea or jump into an ice hole. Thick steam fogs up your screen, and when you're overheating the edges turn red.
Colds. Go out hot into snow, rain or icy water without a sheet and you catch a cold: slowness and sneezing for five minutes. Linden tea and eucalyptus cure it.
Banya Spirit
Banya Spirit (the stars on your thermometer panel) builds up while your body stays in the optimum. It comes faster in humid air, on a bench and while Steaming. Whisking others, bath honey and a cold douse while you're hot all give extra Spirit. Press K to open Banya Mastery and spend it:
- Walrus (50): you never catch a cold, and ice holes are nothing to you.
- Bath Master (100): whisks never break.
- Aromatherapist (120): steam aromas and teas are stronger and last twice as long.
- Hardening (150): +2 hearts.
Spirit and perks are kept after death. Everything is explained in The Bather's Handbook, an in-game guide with 16 chapters, from your first stove to an elite spa.
After the Steam
- Samovar: pour in a bucket of water, add charcoal and herbs, and pour tea into bottles. One brew makes 8 cups. On a hot stove it boils without charcoal.
- Teas: mint cools you down and gives Haste, thyme heals, and linden warms you up and cures a cold.
- Kvas: fills you up and makes you a little tipsy.
- Bath honey: rub it in for Regeneration II, plus Banya Spirit in a steam room.
- Rubbing snowball: −1.5°C instantly.
- Felt bath hat: worn as a helmet. You heat up slower, and it protects your head.
- Bath sheet: worn as a chestplate. Wrap up after the steam room and you won't catch a cold.
Both are rendered on your character as real 3D models.
Herbs
Sometimes grass will drop mint and thyme seeds. Plant them on farmland. Like wheat. Linden blossom drops from oak/dark oak leaves. Whisk twigs are regular leaves. Birch, oak, spruce for juniper. Jungle for eucalyptus.
Compatibility
- Create: a burning stove heats a Create steam boiler above it. The village stove gives passive heat, the cast-iron stove works like a Blaze Burner and the elite stove like a superheated one. Create pipes can fill tubs and samovars.
- JEI: samovar recipes, tub aromas, whisk soaking, stove stats and an info page for every item.
- Config: body temperature speed, stove heat, Spirit gain, colds, fainting, fire from overheating, steam room size, screen fogging and the thermometer HUD can all be tuned.
Achievements
- Light Steam!: enter a steam room for the first time.
- Walrus: swim in an ice hole.
- True Bath Master: max out a whisk.
- Overheated: reach 42°C.
- Enjoy Your Steam!: build a banya at least 5×5 inside with a stove, a tub, a bench and a vent.
