What's new
Ballistic Frontiers 2.23.0
October 20, 2026 | Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 and 1.21.1
Flight and impacts
- Fixed excessive slowing of attack drones and ballistic missiles just before impact.
- Updated the final approach of drone and cruise missile attack routes so they no longer brake as if making a soft landing.
- Fixed impact handling after loading a saved missile state, preventing duplicate detonations.
Launch sounds and effects
- Added distinct, more prominent launch cues for piston, electric and jet drones.
- Enhanced ballistic missile launch audio and effects.
- Launch particles now reflect the engine type; electric drones do not produce a jet flame.
Vehicle maps
- MLRS planning and target selection maps now use a square viewport with equal scale on both axes.
- Fixed north/south clipping and corrected the mapping between mouse clicks and target coordinates.
- The BM-21 Grad map now opens at a 640-block radius, with zoom controls and a return to full range.
Vehicle configuration
- Added an F9 configuration menu with search, categories, profiles per vehicle type, saving and resetting.
- Depending on the vehicle type, settings include speed, range, health, reload time, turning, endurance, map/radar radius, launch volume and launch effects.
- World settings are saved by the server and can be changed by the singleplayer world owner or players with OP level 2 or higher.
- Added personal aim transition speed and FOV settings. The menu is also available through Mods > Ballistic Frontiers > Config.
RPG-7, AT4 and Javelin
- Added distinct draw, aim, sprint, shot and staged reload motions.
- Weapon movement and FOV share a smooth aiming transition, with support for either hand.
- Removed repeated weapon raising when reload state updates.
- Adjusted AT4 and Javelin sight alignment and added protection against the player's own projectile model obstructing the first-person view at launch.
Compatibility and installation
- Changes are included in both Forge builds. Minecraft 1.20.1 requires Java 17; Minecraft 1.21.1 requires Java 21.
- Update the client and server together: network protocol 52.
- Support for previous route versions in existing saves is retained.
- The drone models and textures from 2.22.0 are retained. GeckoLib 4.8.3 is bundled.
Validation and known limitations
- Both builds completed successfully. All 1,066 fresh JUnit tests passed without failures or skips; JAR integrity, resources and the bundled dependency were checked.
- Results from 47 + 47 previous server GameTests were accepted after strict comparison of server logic sources; these were not fresh runs of the final build.
- Full final in-game validation of animations, configuration screens and maps on both versions is still incomplete.
- The pre-existing long-range drone queue issue during cold chunk generation on Forge 1.20.1 is not fixed by this update.
- Perceived loudness, actual multiplayer behavior and FPS still require additional in-game checks.
