What's new

New — Vindicators are awakened

Vindicators used to spawn with nothing but an iron axe. Now, by default, half of them trade it for an iron Epic Fight weapon and fight with that weapon's own moveset. Thanks to the player who suggested it!

  • Four weapons, each with its own moves. A vindicator may carry an iron greatsword, spear, longsword or tachi, and Epic Fight animates its attacks to match. The rest keep their axe. weaponChance in the config sets how many switch.
  • Always iron. The new weapon is the same tier as the axe it replaces, so vindicators never roll down to wood or stone. They follow tier_weights too: set iron to 0 and every vindicator keeps its axe.
  • They fight like the other awakened mobs. A vindicator with a new weapon can guard, parry and dodge. Any vindicator may flee when nearly dead, or spawn as a fast runner.
  • No armor. Illagers can't display armor, so it would only add invisible protection, and a helmet would knock the ominous banner off a raid captain. Vindicators get weapons only.
  • The weapon shows when they fight. As in vanilla, a calm vindicator stands with its arms crossed and only draws its weapon when it comes after you.
  • For datapack authors: the new built-in rule is vindicators.json. Override it with a higher priority, the same way as the zombie, skeleton and piglin rules.

Fixed — Mobs holding vanilla weapons no longer defend

A mob that kept the weapon vanilla gave it, such as a piglin's golden sword, started to guard, parry and dodge once its chunk was unloaded and loaded again, even though this mod never armed it.

  • Only mobs this mod armed defend. Vanilla gear and weapons a mob picks up off the ground no longer turn the defensive AI on after a reload.
  • "enable_defense": false now sticks. Mobs armed by a datapack rule that turns defense off no longer start defending when their chunk reloads.
  • Applies to mobs that spawn after you update. Mobs already in your world behave as before.
