Minecraft's wolf has always been one of the game's most iconic companions.

Yet after taming one, its behavior quickly becomes predictable.

Ash Companion was created to change that.

Instead of replacing the vanilla wolf, this mod expands it into a true companion that grows, learns and adapts throughout your adventure while remaining faithful to Minecraft's original design philosophy.

⭐ Companion Progression

Ash gains experience as he accompanies you through your adventures.

Every level permanently improves his abilities, making his progression a natural part of your survival world rather than a temporary upgrade.

His progression is fully persistent, meaning every journey permanently shapes the companion he becomes.

❤️ A Companion Worth Protecting

Ash is immortal.

Rather than dying permanently like a vanilla wolf, he is designed to stay by your side throughout your entire adventure.

That doesn't mean you can ignore his safety.

When his health becomes critically low, survival becomes his highest priority.

Instead of recklessly fighting to the death, Ash attempts to retreat from combat, creating distance between himself and nearby threats while looking for an opportunity to recover.

If his health eventually reaches low HP, he enters a Downed State instead of dying.

While downed, he is temporarily unable to fight, follow you or assist in combat. After a short period of time, he recovers and rejoins your adventure.

This system creates meaningful combat situations where keeping your companion safe becomes just as important as defeating your enemies, without the frustration of permanently losing him.

🧠 Intelligent AI

The biggest difference between Ash and a vanilla wolf isn't his strength—it's the way he thinks.

Instead of following scripted routines, Ash continuously analyzes:

• Your position

• Nearby entities

• Potential threats

• His current objective

• His own status

Every decision is evaluated in real time, allowing him to react naturally as situations evolve instead of blindly repeating predefined behaviors.

⚙️ Priority-Based Decision System

Every possible action is assigned a dynamic priority.

Should he continue following you?

Protect you?

Attack a nearby hostile creature?

Finish an ongoing fight?

Retreat?

Return after combat?

The answer changes constantly depending on the situation.

Rather than executing behaviors in a fixed order, Ash always selects the action that currently has the highest priority.

This creates smooth transitions between exploration, combat and support while avoiding many of the awkward situations experienced with vanilla wolves, such as getting stuck or remaining idle for no apparent reason.

🎯 Universal Mob Recognition

Compatibility was one of the project's highest priorities.

Instead of relying on manually maintained compatibility lists, Ash uses Minecraft's own entity classification system.

He naturally recognizes:

🟢 Passive creatures

🟡 Neutral creatures

🔴 Hostile creatures

As a result, Ash is compatible with virtually any mod that adds new passive, neutral or hostile entities without requiring dedicated compatibility patches.

Whether you're playing Vanilla+, a medieval adventure or a massive RPG modpack filled with custom creatures, Ash automatically determines how those entities should be handled.

Ash's interface only appears when you look directly at him, keeping the HUD clean during normal gameplay.

Ash Companion was originally developed as one of the core features of my upcoming Minecraft modpack:

Everwild

Everwild is built around a slower, harsher and more immersive survival experience where exploration is dangerous and companionship truly matters.

Because of that, Ash's default balance is tuned specifically for Everwild.

In a standard vanilla world, he may feel slightly stronger during the early stages of the game.

This is intentional.

However, nearly every gameplay parameter can be adjusted directly from the in-game configuration menu, allowing Ash to fit any type of survival experience.

🎨 Vanilla Philosophy

Every feature follows one simple design rule:

If it doesn't feel like Minecraft, it doesn't belong.

Every animation, AI behavior, progression mechanic, interface element and combat interaction has been designed to blend naturally into the vanilla experience.

The objective isn't to make Ash feel modded.

It's to make him feel like he has always belonged in Minecraft.
