AOSO Ascended
The wither and the ender dragon do not stay dead. Bring either one down and it rises again, ascended: far larger, far stronger, with moves of its own, a fight in three parts, and a death worth watching. The End itself is rebuilt around the dragon, with towers, guardians and a rite to watch every time the dragon comes.
Made to be feared in full netherite. Both bosses scale their health to the number of players fighting them, so a group gets a real fight too.
THE ASCENDED ENDER DRAGON
The dragon risen as queen of the void: three heads, each crowned with its own horns, two pairs of wings, a row of great spines, a longer tail ending in a blade, and a cluster of amethyst burning in its chest. Its heads turn to follow you.
Each head has its own power:
- The middle head pours a sweeping void breath that goes through armour and lingers on the ground.
- The left head spits strings of fireballs.
- The right head roars the pull of the ground away, lifting everyone near it helpless into the air while the fire head spits at them.
It also climbs high and falls on you like a stone, sending a ring of void across the ground (jump it). One beat of its four wings can throw you off the island. Its fire rains from the sky, it flies straight through you, and all three heads bite one after another. It whips its tail at whoever stands behind it, and swoops to seize a player in its claws, carrying them high before throwing them down (hit it hard enough and it lets go).
Like the old dragon, it is healed by the crystals on the towers whenever it flies near them. Break them. Breaking one while it is healing the dragon hurts the dragon.
Phase two, at two thirds of its health: it rises over the island and roars, the eye opens in the sky again, and the towers pour their light into it until it bursts, calling Spire Sentinels around you. From then on:
- The eye glares at one player at a time and strikes where they stand, after a ring of light warns them.
- The crystals still on the towers turn their beams on you and strike.
- The dragon tears rifts in the air, enters one and bursts out of another near you.
- It perches on a tower to be healed by its crystal, calling sentinels and spitting fire down, until you drive it off.
Phase three, its last stand: crystals return to the pillars and heal it beam by beam. Now and then it climbs high, draws the void into its heart while the island trembles, and releases it on everything it can see. Hide behind something or take the hit.
THE ASCENDED WITHER
The wither risen as a king of the dead: its middle head is the wither skull crowned with black bone, its jaw hangs loose over a mouth of soul fire, it has a cage of ribs with a nether star burning inside, long arms of bone ending in claws, and wings of bone with a dark soul membrane between the fingers. Its heads turn to follow you.
It fires storms of skulls, pours a sweeping beam of soul fire that goes through armour, hurls itself through you, and slams the ground so a ring of soul fire runs outward (jump it). It raises a legion of wither skeletons, drags you to its claws with chains of souls, reaps whoever comes near with both claws, and drives its claws into the ground so graves burst open in a line running toward you.
Phase two, at two thirds of its health: it rises screaming, gathers the dark into its star, and bursts, calling its legion and wraiths. From then on:
- The ground dies in patches of soul fire under you.
- Skulls fall from the sky.
- Grave lines run out three at a time.
- It spins, dragging everyone in, then bursts.
- It comes apart into souls and reappears behind you, reaping.
Phase three, its last stand: the wither's armour of light covers it, arrows glance off, skulls rain from the sky, and it heals if left alone. Sometimes all three heads lock onto you while darkness gathers in their eyes. Whoever is looking at it when they open is struck, so turn away.
THE END ARENA
The plain obsidian pillars are replaced by towers of the void: stepped plinths, flying buttresses, obsidian banded with crying obsidian, balconies, and a crown of purpur with the crystal burning at its center.
Every tower crystal sits inside a shield that nothing passes through while its Spire Sentinels live. Sentinels are hearts of crying obsidian with a burning eye inside a wheeling cage of obsidian shards; they fire void shards and strike anyone who comes close. Kill a crystal's sentinels and its shield shatters.
The dragon never simply appears. The first time anyone enters the End, the tower crystals wake one by one, each struck by lightning, and cast their beams into the sky. An eye opens where the beams meet, looks down on each of you in turn, and the Ascended Ender Dragon descends from it. Respawning the dragon is the same rite, only grander: the towers rise from the ground and light up one by one before the eye opens.
Operators can replay the whole rite at any time with /endarena rite (in the End).
ALSO
- The first time the wither or the dragon rises, and when either of them dies, players nearby watch it as a cinematic.
- Whoever kills an ascended boss receives its trophy: a small statue on a pedestal that faces whoever places it and turns when clicked.
- Everything is in the world's config: whether each boss rises, health and damage, the last stand threshold, cinematics, extra health per player, and the towers, shields, sentinels and rite of the End arena.
- AOSO End Arena is now part of this mod. Remove the old aoso_endarena jar; worlds made with it keep everything.
- Available for NeoForge 26.3 and 1.21.1.
A companion to AOSO, the saga by Aws Alrammahi. The bosses wear skins assembled at runtime from your own game's textures, and every sound is the game's own. Nothing from Minecraft is copied into the mod. Every model and animation is original.
