# AOSO: Ships, Airships & Arms
**Take to the sea and the sky.** Sail a merchant cog or a three-masted war galleon and fire its broadsides. Lift off in an airship, or rain fire from a war airship. Drive a coach and two horses down the road. Then fight on foot with the real arms and armour of the Middle Ages.
It is a companion to **AOSO**, but it **runs on its own** too.
---
## ✦ At a glance
- **Five vehicles**: the Cog, the War Galleon, the Airship, the War Airship and the Carriage
- **Real gunnery**: broadsides, a bow gun, gunners' seats, a field cannon you aim by looking, and fire-bombs dropped from the air
- **Twelve medieval weapons** in steel, each with its own strength
- **Four sets of armour**: knight's plate, crusader mail, the Norman hauberk and the gambeson
- **Steel**: a new ore in the Overworld, the Nether and the End
---
## ⛵ The ships
**The Cog** is a sturdy little merchant ship with one great square sail.
- 4 aboard, and a hold of 27 slots
- W/S lets out or takes in sail; A/D works the rudder
**The War Galleon** is a great warship with three masts and **eleven cannon**: five down each side and one at the bow.
- 8 aboard, and a hold of 54 slots
- **[B]** fires the whole broadside on the side you look toward, or the bow gun straight ahead
- **Six gunners' seats** at the rails let several players man the guns while the helmsman keeps the helm. A red ring marks where each ball will fall.
- Each shot takes a cannonball from the hold or from your pack
---
## 🎈 The airships
**The Airship** is a canvas envelope with a burner and two propellers.
- 3 aboard
- Feed the burner coal, charcoal or blaze powder (its fuel box feeds it for you)
- **Jump** to climb, **[X]** to sink, W/S for the engines, A/D to turn
**The War Airship** is an armoured gondola under a great envelope.
- 6 aboard, **five guns**, a 54-slot hold and a bay of **fire-bombs**
- **[B]** fires the guns on the side you look toward
- **[G]** lets a fire-bomb fall on whatever lies below
- **Four gunners' seats** in the gondola
---
## 🐎 The carriage
A coach and two horses, with a driver, two passengers and a boot for luggage.
- The first one aboard drives
- W/S works the reins, A/D turns
---
## 💣 The field cannon
An iron gun on its wooden carriage. Set it down and right-click to man it.
- It turns wherever you look, up and down too, and marks where its ball will land
- **[B]** or a right-click with a cannonball fires it
- Sneak with an empty hand, away from it, to pick it up again
---
## ⚔ Arms of the Middle Ages
Every weapon is forged from **steel**, and each fights differently:
| Weapon | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Longsword** | A hand-and-a-half blade that reaches a little farther than a sword |
| **Zweihänder** | The great two-handed sword: slow, long and terrible |
| **Rondel Dagger** | Quick, and twice as deadly from behind |
| **Falchion** | A broad cleaver of a sword, cruel to those without armour |
| **Battle Axe** | Breaks a guard and cuts timber |
| **War Hammer** | Strikes harder the more armour its target wears |
| **Flanged Mace** | Its flanges bite through mail and plate |
| **Morning Star** | Its blow slows whatever it strikes |
| **Flail** | The ball swings round the edge of any shield |
| **Spear** | Keeps the enemy at a distance |
| **Halberd** | The longest reach of any weapon on foot |
| **Lance** | From the saddle (or a carriage, or a ship) it strikes as hard as you are fast |
## 🛡 Armour
- **Knight's plate**: armet, breastplate, cuisses and sabatons
- **Crusader**: great helm, surcoat over mail, mail chausses and mail boots
- **Norman**: nasal helm, hauberk, hauberk skirt and gartered boots
- **Gambeson**: arming cap, quilted gambeson, quilted hose and turnshoes
## ⛏ Steel
Steel ore lies deep in the stone of every world: in stone and deepslate, in the Nether and in the End. Smelt raw steel into ingots. Steel also gives you nuggets and riveted mail rings.

## 🧩 With the rest of AOSO
None of these are needed:
- **With AOSO**, the armour stands out from you in full 3D, with pauldrons, crests and plates.
- **With AOSO: Epic Combat**, every weapon gets its own moveset: combos, heavy blows, guards and parries.
