Antique Atlas Neoforge

Antique Atlas 4 Native Neoforge unofficial port

Antique Atlas for NeoForge

Unofficial port. This is a NeoForge version of Antique Atlas 4 by Sisby folk, which is a rewrite of the original Antique Atlas by Hunternif. I am not part of their team and they have nothing to do with this page. All the credit for the mod and its art is theirs. If something breaks in this version, report it here and not to them.

A hand-drawn world map that fills itself in as you explore.

Forests turn into little trees, mountains into peaks, water gets ripples. Villages and other structures show up when you find them. You can drop your own markers, see your friends on the map and carry the atlas in your hand like a real book.

The atlas

Why does this exist?

Antique Atlas 4 is a Fabric mod. On NeoForge you had to run it through Sinytra Connector and Fabric API. This version runs on NeoForge by itself, with neither of them. It keeps the same features, the same art, the same resource pack format and the same mod id.

How to play

  1. Install NeoForge 21.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1.
  2. Put Antique Atlas and Surveyor in your mods folder. Surveyor is what remembers what you explored, so the atlas does nothing without it.
  3. Press M to open the atlas. Drag to move, scroll to zoom.
  4. Want it in your hand? Rename a book to Antique Atlas at an anvil and right-click it.

On a server, put Surveyor on the server and Antique Atlas on each player's game. The server does not need Antique Atlas.

Adding a marker

What is different from the original?

I did not redo the mod. I ported it and fixed what I ran into.

Fixes

  • The map now updates when the terrain changes. Before, an area that was already drawn stayed the same until you re-entered the world.
  • Fixed several crashes: broken resource packs, odd biomes, holes to the void, End islands.
  • Singleplayer no longer crashes while the map is being drawn.
  • Your marker list keeps the same order between sessions, and the bookmark lists keep their scroll.

Extras

  • Sneak and use the atlas book to zoom the handheld map out.
  • Middle-click a marker to copy its coordinates.
  • Export your whole explored area as a PNG.
  • An optional minimap (off by default).
  • Optional soft fade at the edge of unexplored land (off by default).
  • Resource packs can control how water, ice, lava and each dimension are drawn.
  • It uses a bit less memory and runs lighter while drawing.

The full list is in the changelog. The wiki has the guides.

Things to know

  • Coming from the original? Your markers and explored map are stored by Surveyor, and its data should load the same here. In theory you just remove the other mods and put these in. I have not tested it with every old world, so back up first. If it breaks, I am not responsible for lost maps.
  • Do not install this next to the original Antique Atlas 4 or its Connector build. They share the same mod id.
  • Config files use the NeoForge format, so settings from the Fabric version do not carry over.
