Casual Tinkering β Better Combat Compatibility Datapack
A datapack that adds custom attack animations for the Circular Saw when using Better Combat.
π¦ Overview
This datapack integrates the Circular Saw from Casual Tinkering with the popular combat overhaul mod Better Combat. When installed, the Circular Saw will use Better Combat's one-handed axe animations, giving it a satisfying swing, proper attack range, and a smooth combo feel.
No modification to Casual Tinkering itself is required β this is a standalone datapack that works as an optional add-on.
β¨ Features
- One-handed axe animations β the Circular Saw swings like a one-handed axe.
- Extended attack range β set to 4.0 blocks for better reach.
- Horizontal slash attack β single attack with a 90Β° cone angle.
- Full Better Combat integration β damage, sounds, and hit effects are inherited from Better Combat's
axe preset.
- Lightweight β only a few kilobytes, no performance impact.
π₯ Installation
- Install Better Combat (Forge version) from here.
- Download this datapack (the
.zip file).
- Place the
.zip file into your world's datapacks folder:
- Singleplayer:
.minecraft/saves/YourWorld/datapacks/
- Server:
<world_folder>/datapacks/
- Start the world (or run
/reload) to activate the datapack.
Note: The datapack must be installed per world. If you want it in all worlds, you can put it in .minecraft/datapacks/ (global), but this is not recommended unless you always play with Better Combat.
π§ Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge)
- Better Combat (Forge version) installed
- Casual Tinkering (the mod itself) installed
π How It Works
Better Combat uses a data-driven system to assign attack animations to weapons. This datapack provides a simple JSON file that tells Better Combat to treat the Circular Saw as a one-handed axe with custom range and animation. No Java code is involved β it's pure resource/data pack magic.
The datapack does not add any new items or blocks. It only adds metadata for the existing Circular Saw.
π Compatibility
- Casual Tinkering β required
- Better Combat β required (Forge version)
- Other mods β should be compatible unless they modify the same attack logic (unlikely)

π οΈ Customization
If you want to tweak the attack range or animation, you can edit the circular_saw.json file inside the datapack. See the Better Combat wiki for available animation IDs and parameters.
β Troubleshooting
- No animation? Make sure Better Combat is installed and enabled, and that the datapack is active (check with
/datapack list).
- Incorrect attack range? Verify you placed the datapack correctly and reloaded.
- Game crashes? Ensure you are using the correct version of Better Combat for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge.
