This datapack will prevent log from being broken with your fists. It'll be placed back if you try to.
you can break logs with anything that's in the tag config:axes (vanilla axes are in here by default but I'd recommend adding other mods axes/paxels
Note: there's code in here from Mechanization for its tree feller to allow compatibility with the datapack. It's licensed under a GPL license which allows open source distributions of it's code but NOT closed ones.
Issues:
logs sometime place even if broken with a item from config:axes (might actually keep that as a feature)
