MobRepeller v2.3.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1

Build a cross-shaped totem in the world and hostile mobs won't spawn — or stick around — inside its radius.

Updated from Spigot 1.12.2 to Spigot/Paper 1.20.1. This is a Bukkit plugin, not a Forge mod — works on Spigot, Paper, and hybrid servers like Mohist and Arclight.

Requires Java 17+ and Spigot/Paper 1.20.1.

How It Works

Build a vertical cross out of a single material and the plugin auto-detects it:

    [X]
  [X][X][X]
    [X]
    [X]

The center block determines the tier and protection radius. Six tiers available:

Material Radius
Clay 25m
Coal Block 25m
Hay Bale 25m
Iron Block 50m
Gold Block 100m
Diamond Block 150m

A floating hologram label appears above the totem showing its tier and radius. Hostile mobs inside the field get gently pushed outward. If they refuse to leave, they get ejected — or killed after 15 seconds.

What's New in 2.0.0

Per-Player Totem Limits

Server admins can now limit how many totems each player can place. Default is 5. Creative mode players are exempt — their totems don't count toward the limit.

totem_limit:
  enabled: true
  max_per_player: 5

Totem Decay

Optional mechanic: totems expire after a configurable number of hours. When a totem expires, it deactivates and nearby players get a warning message. Players need to replace the center block to reactivate. Adds a nice maintenance loop to keep totems feeling alive.

Disabled by default — enable it if you want that survival feel.

decay:
  enabled: false
  hours: 48
warn_message: "&e[MobRepeller] A totem has expired and deactivated!"

Radius Visualization

New command: /mobrepeller show — draws a glowing blue particle circle at the exact edge of the nearest totem's protection radius for 10 seconds. Finally see exactly where your protection ends.

Totem Linking

When two totem fields overlap, glowing END_ROD particles float along a beam between their centers. Pure cosmetic, but it makes totem networks look amazing.

Break Warning

Breaking an arm block of a totem now shows a warning first: "This block is part of a totem! Break again within 5s to confirm." Prevents accidental deactivation. Breaking the center block still removes instantly (no confirmation needed — you clearly meant it).

Mod Protection Toggles

Each supported mod can now be individually enabled or disabled for hostile detection, live at runtime:

/mobrepeller modprotection list
/mobrepeller modprotection alexs_mobs off
/mobrepeller modprotection ice_and_fire on

Changes save to config and survive restarts.

Inward-Flowing Particle Effects

The ambient totem effect got a visual upgrade. When you're within 5 blocks of a totem, particles spawn on a ring around it and flow inward toward the center — like magical energy being drawn in. The enchanting sound plays at randomized pitch (0.8-1.4) with 30% chance per trigger, so it feels organic instead of mechanical.

Bug Fixes

  • Velocity stacking — mobs in range of multiple totems used to get launched into orbit. Now each mob is only pushed by one totem per tick.
  • Center block break — breaking the center block of a totem now immediately unregisters it. Previously, the cross validator couldn't find the shape because the center was already air, leaving an orphaned structure.
  • Memory leaks — the linger tracking map for mobs inside fields now periodically cleans up dead entity UUIDs instead of growing forever.
  • Patrol spawns — pillager patrols are now blocked by totems (added PATROL to the spawn reason filter).
  • Auto-save — totems save to disk every 5 minutes automatically. A server crash no longer loses recently placed totems.
