Betarock 1.7.3

Betarock 1.7.3 is an ambitious recreation of Minecraft Java Edition Beta 1.7.3, rebuilt from the ground up for Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

The goal of Betarock 1.7.3 is not simply to make modern Minecraft look old. The project is designed to recreate the world generation, atmosphere, survival mechanics, mob behavior, weather, terrain, caves, vegetation, and overall feeling of playing Minecraft during the Beta 1.7.3 era—while running inside modern Bedrock Edition.

A Classic World Rebuilt for Bedrock

Betarock 1.7.3 features its own custom world-generation system designed around the terrain style of Beta 1.7.3. Hills, cliffs, oceans, caves, beaches, forests, trees, ores, springs, snow, vegetation, and underground terrain are generated using systems created specifically for this project.

The world is streamed around the player while you explore, allowing Betarock 1.7.3 to create its classic terrain without relying on Minecraft's normal modern terrain generation.

The project has been heavily optimized so that terrain can continue generating during exploration while leaving enough processing time for mobs, combat, and normal gameplay.
Classic Beta Atmosphere

Betarock 1.7.3 recreates many of the small details that gave Beta Minecraft its distinctive atmosphere.

Beta-inspired terrain and cave generation
Classic forests, trees, vegetation, mushrooms, reeds, cactus, and pumpkins
Beta-style underground ore distribution
Water and lava springs
Classic snow behavior
Beta-inspired rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and fog
Classic mob spawning and despawning behavior
Beta-era hostile and passive mob selection
Recreated Beta mob damage and several classic AI behaviors
Custom squid behavior inspired by Beta 1.7.3
No modern wandering traders or trader llamas
Classic food and item behavior where possible
Beta-style block drops and mining rules
Removal or replacement of modern mechanics that conflict with the Beta experience
A custom world-seed system that allows numeric or text seeds to generate different Betarock 1.7.3 worlds

Built Around Beta 1.7.3

Betarock 1.7.3 is specifically focused on Beta 1.7.3, one of the final versions of Minecraft before the Adventure Update dramatically changed world generation and survival gameplay.

The project intentionally aims for the simpler survival experience of that era: exploring enormous old-style landscapes, building with a smaller block palette, surviving dangerous nights, discovering caves, and creating a world without many of the systems introduced by modern Minecraft.

Where Bedrock Edition allows it, mechanics are recreated as closely as possible. Where an exact recreation is impossible, custom systems are used to reproduce the behavior or visual result as closely as Bedrock permits.

More Than a Texture Pack

Betarock 1.7.3 is not a texture pack placed over modern Minecraft.
Behind the scenes, the project contains extensive custom systems responsible for generating and managing the world, including terrain streaming, caves, decorations, trees, underground generation, snow, weather, mobs, spawning, and other Beta-era mechanics.

A major part of development has been finding ways to reproduce Beta's world while keeping generation fast enough that mob AI and normal gameplay remain responsive while exploring.

Still Growing

Betarock 1.7.3 is an ongoing project.

The objective is to continue closing the remaining differences between Bedrock and Java Beta 1.7.3 while improving world-generation speed, stability, mob behavior, and overall accuracy.
