UNDERGROUND EXPANSION
Caves in Minecraft are mostly empty. You dig down, grab some ore, and there is nothing else to find. This add-on puts places down there worth walking into: three kinds of underground village, two sizes of mineshaft, long tunnel networks, and a fortress built around a forge.
Everything generates on its own in new chunks. No custom blocks, no resource pack, nothing to craft.
Underground villages
Villagers live below the surface. These are full villages, not a few houses in a hole: streets, farms, a well, lit paths and profession chests. Each type is built out of whatever the cave around it is made of, so they do not look like copies of each other.
Lush Village
Only generates in lush caves, between Y -24 and Y 16. Houses are mossy stone brick and oak, standing on moss and clay, with azalea bushes along the paths and spore blossoms hanging overhead. The ceiling grows shroomlight, so the whole cavern is already lit when you walk in. This is the easiest one to find early.
Mushroom Village
Between Y -18 and Y 14. The walls are mushroom stem and the roofs are red mushroom caps, built on mycelium and podzol. Shroomlight in the ceiling gives it an orange glow.
Deepslate Village
The deep one, between Y -50 and Y -26. Deepslate brick walls, polished deepslate streets and dark oak roofs. Nothing grows this far down, so it runs on lanterns and glowstone in the cave roof. If you find this village you are already at diamond level.
Mineshafts
Mineshaft:
Between Y -8 and Y 36. Real mining camps instead of plain corridors: bunk rooms, tool storage, a small library, supply crates, spruce support beams, cobwebs in the corners and rails running between the rooms. Coal, iron and copper show in the walls, with the odd gold, lapis or redstone vein.
Deep Mineshaft:
The same idea much further down, between Y -54 and Y -18. Deepslate and dark oak, more cobwebs, and diamond ore sitting in the walls. Bigger than the upper mineshaft and the chests are worth more.
Tunnels
Long carved passages between Y -20 and Y 24, with side rooms branching off them. They are quick to travel through, and they tend to break into other structures, so following one usually leads somewhere.
Fortress
The rarest structure in the pack, between Y -52 and Y -30. Deepslate brick halls with polished and chiselled deepslate trim and gold block accents. Inside there is a forge, a barracks, a library and a sealed vault. The barracks and the vault are guarded by mob spawners, and the vault chest holds the best loot in the add-on.
Loot
Nine chest types are spread across the structures and they are not filled from the same list. Miner chests hold picks, torches and food. Forge chests hold ingots and armour. Vault chests hold enchanted gear and the rare drops. Village chests follow the villager profession they belong to, so a toolsmith house and a library will not give you the same thing.
How often they generate
- Mineshafts and deep mineshafts – every 20 chunks
- Lush villages – every 24 chunks
- Tunnels – every 26 chunks
- Mushroom and deepslate villages – every 32 chunks
- Fortresses – every 44 chunks
