✨ TrailBack

Never get lost again. Leave a magical trail, then follow it home.

TrailBack adds a single enchanted item that records your path as a glowing, flowing trail on the ground, then guides you back along it. Unlike a plain breadcrumb trail, it's smart: it cleans itself up as you move, so the path always shows the shortest, most recent route.

Perfect for deep caves, huge mineshafts, strongholds, the Nether, exploring far from base, or just that cozy feeling of a guide light at your feet.

🧭 How it works

You get the TrailBack Guide the first time you join a world. Just use the item:

• 🔴 REC: records your path and draws the trail as you walk.
• 🟢 GUIDE: shows the trail leading back to where you started. It fades away behind you as you follow it, and switches off by itself when you arrive.
• ⚪ OFF: nothing is drawn, recorded, or played.

A small action-bar readout shows the current state, the number of points recorded, and how far you are from the trail.

🧠 A trail that cleans itself

This is where TrailBack shines. The path is smart:

• Walk back the way you came? No duplicated or messy lines. The trail is trimmed from that point on.
• Take a different route? The old branch is removed and the new one continues cleanly.
• Walked in a loop? The loop is erased automatically, so you keep the shortest clean path.
• Cave levels and stairs? Vertical tolerance means a trail below you isn't wiped by walking over it.
• Teleported or fell a huge distance? A new segment starts instead of drawing a line through walls.
• Nether, End, Overworld? Each dimension keeps its own separate trail.

The trail always represents your latest valid path.

🌌 Looks & sound

• Hand-made pixel-art trail that lies flat on the ground and follows your direction of travel
• Light pulses that flow along the trail: forward while recording, back toward the start while guiding
• Drifting fireflies that float up softly around you
• Soft ambient hum, very quiet and gentle, just enough to feel like an active guide (and it won't get annoying in survival)
• Only you see your trail and particles, and everything is rendered close to you to keep performance smooth

⚙️ Settings menu (Sneak + Use)

• Toggle particles on/off
• Toggle ambient sound on/off
• Clear the trail of the current dimension
• Clear all trails

Your trails and settings are saved per player, so they survive closing the game.

• You automatically receive it the first time you join a world with the add-on.
• Craft it: 4 Redstone + 1 Compass
