Reeker – Behaviors and Additional Information
Spoilers ahead!
As mentioned in the description, the Reeker is a creature like no other. It is extremely protective toward those who threaten or harm innocent lives.
---
1. Aggressiveness
At the beginning, the Reeker tends to stalk players—not to attack, but to observe.
It is a very curious creature and watches to determine whether a player is an ally or an enemy.
---
2. Threat Level
The Reeker dislikes seeing players wearing heavy or powerful equipment.
To the creature, this means the player is seeking power and is therefore a threat.
Example:
If you have 2 iron swords in your inventory, it still counts. Any kind of armor, tools, or weapons increase your threat level, whether equipped or not.
What is the Threat Level?
The Threat Level is a hidden value the Reeker uses to determine how dangerous a player is.
Players with higher threat levels are more likely to be targeted, especially in multiplayer.
The Reeker becomes threatened by only two things:
Gears
Kills
As mentioned before, it hates when players have powerful equipment.
It also becomes aggressive when animals are killed—this includes villagers, animals, and especially babies.
Doing this immediately angers the Reeker, so don’t do it.
---
3. The Butterfly
You may see butterflies around as you play.
These insects are attracted to “reeking smells.”
If you ever spot them, you may want to look around—
they act as a warning that the Reeker is coming or somewhere nearby.
---
4. Butterfly Colors
Butterflies have multiple colors, and they are very important.
If you see yellow butterflies, you are safe.
If the colors change, your threat level is increasing.
These butterflies are an indicator:
Yellow – Safe
Green – Stalks more than usual
Orange – Might attack
Purple – Appears more often
Red – You’re considered an enemy
There are times you might not see them, but they still help warn you about your current threat level.
A brown butterfly may appear when the Reeker goes away.
---
5. Stalking Behaviors
The Reeker has multiple stalking behaviors.
Sometimes you need to stare at the creature, but whenever music plays, do not look at it.
Either hide or look away.
Sometimes the Reeker gives you a head start to hide before it hunts. It will go away after a while, but if it finds you… good luck.
It may also sneak behind players slowly.
If it reaches the target, it will attack.
Look at it immediately if this happens—the creature will flee.
The Reeker likes to hide behind trees.
It is wary and often runs or hides when being watched.
---
6. Infestation
Whenever the creature flees, there is a chance it will affect the surroundings due to its reeking, abnormal body.
The affected area contains reeking blocks infested with abnormal worms. These worms may appear when you break the blocks.
The good news is that reeking blocks can contain useful items—sometimes even a diamond.
---
7. Mold Cleanser
This tool is crafted with copper and a glass bottle.
Placing the block will cleanse a whole 50m area, greatly reducing the chance of the Reeker infecting the environment.
---
8. Bug Sprayer
A sprayer that can kill infested worms that appear when a reeking block is destroyed.
To use it, simply hold or right-click the sprayer. It releases a sweet scent that lasts for a few seconds.
This scent also stuns the Reeker, since it is extremely sensitive to sweet fragrances.
(Seems like it prefers its own smell.)
---
9. Passive Behaviors
At times, the Reeker will sit down to rest—this is the best opportunity to earn its trust.
To gain its trust:
1. Slowly approach the Reeker while it's sitting.
2. Make sure you're holding exactly 30 blueberries in your main hand.
3. Do not switch items, attack, or right-click.
4. Just wait and let the creature make the first move.
It takes time to gain its trust. At first, it may push you away and take the berries.
Keep trying until you succeed.
If you gain its trust, it will give you something in return.
However, the Reeker might take advantage of this.
Just because it gives something doesn't mean you're fully its ally.
---
10. Planting
Sometimes you’ll see the Reeker planting blueberry seeds.
When they grow, it returns to eat them.
As the Reeker eats more berries, it gains more health.
You can harvest these berries by clicking them, but be careful—this is its natural food source, and it won’t like someone stealing it.
You can eat the berries too, and they remove negative effects.
It seems the Reeker may have recreated these berries itself. Nobody knows how.
