๐ฅ System Dynamic Lights
System Dynamic Lights brings real-time portable lighting to Minecraft Bedrock without requiring experimental gameplay or player.json.
Carry torches, lanterns and many other supported light sources in your main hand, offhand or compatible helmet and illuminate caves, builds and dark areas while moving.
The addon also supports dropped-item lighting, burning mobs, naturally glowing entities, underwater lighting, offhand placement and a complete configuration book.

๐ Update V3.2.9
๐ Lore Duplication Fix
V3.2.9 fixes an issue that could cause the System Dynamic Lights lore to be duplicated on supported light-emitting items.
The addon now handles its managed lore correctly so the same lighting information is not repeatedly added to the item description.
This keeps item descriptions cleaner and prevents duplicate System Dynamic Lights information from accumulating.
๐ Full Translation Support — V3.2.8
V3.2.8 expanded translation support for:
- Light-emitting item descriptions
- New addon items
- Configuration Book information
- Interface text

โ Offhand Dynamic Lighting
One of the main features of System Dynamic Lights is the ability to use supported light sources directly from the offhand.
How to Move a Light to the Offhand
Hold a supported light source in your main hand and look toward empty air.
Then use the item:
- PC: Right-click
- Mobile: Press and hold the screen
- Console: Use the normal interact/use button
The offhand must be empty.

Looking at empty air is important. This prevents the addon from interfering when you are intentionally trying to place or use a block.
๐งฑ Place Lights Directly From the Offhand
Supported placeable light blocks can also be placed without moving them back to the main hand.
When the option is enabled:
Sneak + Hit the side of the block where you want to place the light.
You can choose which items are allowed:
- Torches Only
- Torches and Lanterns
- All Supported Placeable Lights
Items that can emit dynamic light but do not have a valid block version will not attempt to place themselves.
๐ก Supported Dynamic Light Sources
System Dynamic Lights supports many vanilla Minecraft items and light-related item families.

Supported items can display information directly in their lore, including their Light Level and usage instructions.

The catalog also includes special mappings for items such as:
- Redstone Dust
- Redstone Repeater
- Redstone Comparator
- Conduit
- Brewing Stand
- Sea Pickle
- Torches
- Lanterns
- Other supported vanilla light sources
โ๏ธ System Dynamic Light Book
The addon includes a complete configuration book with two main sections:
- โ๏ธ Settings
- โน๏ธ Information
The Information section explains what every option does so players do not need an external guide.

Main Settings
1. Enable Dynamic Light
Main switch for the addon.
- Enabled: Dynamic lighting features are active.
- Disabled: Dynamic lighting, automatic offhand activation and special offhand placement are disabled.

2. Offhand Light
Controls whether supported items in the offhand illuminate the player.

3. Helmet Light
Controls dynamic light from compatible lantern helmets.

4. Preferred Light Source
Determines which player light source has priority when several are available.
- Brightest Available
- Original Priority
- Prefer Helmet
- Prefer Offhand
- Prefer Main Hand

If the preferred source is unavailable, the addon can fall back to another available source.
5. Offhand Activation Method
Choose how supported items move automatically from the main hand to an empty offhand.
- Disabled
- Use Item
- Sneak + Use Item

The player must be looking at empty air.
6. Offhand Torch Placement
Controls special block placement from the offhand.
- Disabled
- Sneak + Hit

7. Offhand Place Light Blocks
- Torches Only
- Torches and Lanterns
- All Placeable Lights

8. Dropped Item Lights
Controls whether supported dropped items create dynamic light.

9. Maximum Dropped Item Lights
- 10 Lights
- 25 Lights
- 50 Lights
- Unlimited

Lower limits can help performance in worlds with many dropped items.
10. Entity Lighting
- Disabled
- Burning Entities Only
- Natural Glowing Mobs Only
- All Supported Entities

Naturally supported glowing mobs include Blaze, Magma Cube and Glow Squid.
11. Item Information
- Disabled
- Light Level Only
- Full Information

This controls the System Dynamic Lights lore added to supported items.
12. Dimension Settings
- Overworld Only
- Overworld + Nether
- Overworld + The End
- All Dimensions

๐ฏ Smart Light Priority
When a player is already producing light from the:
- Main hand
- Offhand
- Compatible helmet
that player light receives priority over nearby dropped items and supported light-emitting entities.
Nearby secondary light sources can temporarily suspend their own lighting instead of constantly competing with the player's light.
When the player moves away, changes dimensions or stops carrying the light source, those suspended lights automatically begin working again.
This helps keep dynamic lighting more stable and efficient.
โก Performance Improvements
Recent versions significantly optimized how the addon processes lighting.
Player Lighting
Player lighting continues to update frequently so movement feels responsive.
Dropped Items
Dropped light sources are processed less frequently than player lighting to reduce unnecessary work.
Light-Emitting Entities
Supported entities and burning mobs are also processed on a reduced update interval.
Inventory Lore
The addon no longer needs to scan every player's full inventory every tick.
Lore updates can use inventory-change events with a fallback check instead.
Configurable Limits
Dropped-item lighting can be limited to:
- 10
- 25
- 50
- Unlimited
This allows server and Realm owners to choose between maximum visual activity and better performance.
๐จ Dropped Item Lighting
Supported light-emitting items can illuminate the area even after being dropped on the ground.
For example, dropping a torch or another supported light source can create light where it lands.
This feature can be completely disabled or limited through the Configuration Book.
๐ฅ Entity Lighting
System Dynamic Lights can also illuminate the world through entities.
Supported modes include:
๐ฅ Burning Entities
Entities that are currently on fire can produce dynamic light.
โจ Naturally Glowing Mobs
Supported mobs include:
- Blaze
- Magma Cube
- Glow Squid
You can choose whether to enable only one group or all supported entities.
๐ Underwater Lighting
Supported underwater light sources can illuminate areas below the surface.
The Sea Pickle is supported with underwater lighting.

Sea Pickles can also be used through the offhand lighting system.
๐ช Optional Mining Helmets
Mining/Lantern Helmets are available through the separate System Dynamic Extra content pack.
Keeping this extra content separate means players who only want the vanilla-compatible Dynamic Lights system do not need to install additional custom equipment.
Compatible lantern helmets can produce Light Level 15 when Helmet Light is enabled.

These helmets keep the durability behavior of their regular counterparts and can be enchanted and repaired using normal Minecraft materials.

๐งฉ Compatibility
๐ซ No player.json
System Dynamic Lights does not use player.json.
This makes it easier to combine with addons that modify:
- Player animations
- Vanilla item textures
- Player behavior
- Custom equipment
- Other player-related systems
๐จ Action & Stuff
The addon is designed to work alongside Action & Stuff without interfering with its custom animations or textures.
๐ฅ Realms & Multiplayer
System Dynamic Lights can be used in multiplayer worlds and Realms.
๐งช No Experimental Gameplay
No experimental gameplay toggles are required.
๐ Achievements
The addon is designed to work without disabling achievements.
๐ฆ Installation
System Dynamic Lights uses two required packs:
- System Dynamic Light BP/BH — Behavior Pack
- System Dynamic Light RP/RH — Resource Pack
What is the difference?
BP/BH contains the addon logic, mechanics, entities and behavior.
RP/RH contains textures, models, animations, names and other visual resources.
Both are required for System Dynamic Lights to work correctly.
If you also want the optional Mining/Lantern Helmets and extra custom content, install the separate System Dynamic Extra pack.
