If you ever switched from Java to Bedrock you probably noticed food feels kinda off. You eat a golden carrot and a melon slice and it feels exactly the same. No difference. That's because Bedrock is missing the fast saturation-powered healing that Java has had since 1.9.

This add-on fixes that. It brings saturation to Bedrock, matching Java's values and behavior as close as the scripting API allows. Every food now has a purpose again.

What Saturation Does

Saturation is a hidden value that sits on top of your hunger bar. It drains before your actual hunger does, so high-saturation foods keep your hunger bar full way longer.

When your hunger is completely full (20/20) and you still have saturation left, you regenerate 1 HP every half second. Same speed as Java. Each heal costs 1.5 saturation, so richer foods keep you healing longer.

• Saturation caps at 20, but can't go above your current hunger level

• Resets to 5 on death, new players also start with 5

• Only works in Survival and Adventure mode

• Respects /gamerule naturalRegeneration so UHC worlds work fine

Per-Food Saturation Values

Every food item is mapped to its Java Edition saturation value. Here's the full list:

Saturation Foods
0.2 Tropical Fish, Pufferfish
0.4 Sweet Berries, Glow Berries, Cookie, Raw Cod, Raw Salmon, Torchflower Seeds, Pitcher Pod, Cake (per slice)
0.6 Dried Kelp, Raw Potato
0.8 Rotten Flesh
1.2 Raw Chicken, Raw Mutton, Melon Slice, Beetroot, Honey Bottle, Poisonous Potato
1.8 Raw Beef, Raw Porkchop, Raw Rabbit
2.4 Apple, Chorus Fruit
3.2 Spider Eye
3.6 Raw Carrot
4.8 Pumpkin Pie
6.0 Baked Potato, Bread, Cooked Cod, Cooked Rabbit
7.2 Cooked Chicken, Mushroom Stew, Beetroot Soup, Suspicious Stew
9.6 Golden Apple, Enchanted Golden Apple, Cooked Salmon, Cooked Mutton
12.0 Rabbit Stew
12.8 Cooked Beef, Cooked Porkchop
14.4 Golden Carrot (highest saturation in the game)

Cake is also supported. Most Bedrock add-ons can't handle cake since its placed as a block and doesn't fire normal eating events. This add-on tracks the block state changes to detect when you eat a slice and gives you 0.4 saturation per bite.

Works With Other Add-ons

If you use other add-ons that add custom foods, those are automatically supported as long as they define the standard minecraft:food component. The add-on reads the nutrition and saturation modifier and calculates it using Java's formula. No config needed.

The Saturation status effect works too. If you get saturation from a Suspicious Stew, potions, /effect commands or anything else, the add-on grants saturation using Java's formula. Not just the food table, the actual effect is handled.

Check Your Saturation

Type /jc:saturation in chat to see your current saturation, like Saturation: 5.4 / 20. This is totally optional, normal play doesn't need any commands. Works without cheats enabled.

It shows a private chat message only to you. It doesn't touch the action bar or add any overlay, so it won't mess with other add-ons.

Requirements

Minecraft Bedrock Edition 26.10 or later (stable)
Both Resource Pack and Behavior Pack need to be active
Works in Singleplayer and Multiplayer
No experimental toggles needed

Installation

1. Download the .mcaddon file, open it and Minecraft imports both packs automatically

2. Apply both packs to your world

3. Done. No commands, no setup

You can also grab the .mcpack files separately if you want. The resource pack just replaces the hunger effect icon textures (when you have the hunger status effect). It doesn't add any HUD or saturation bar overlay. The behavior pack handles all the actual logic.

Good To Know

• The hunger drain slowdown part isn't fully replicable on Bedrock due to API limitations. This add-on handles the regen side and saturation accumulation from eating, which is the most impactful part.

• Cake detection in multiplayer is a bit conservative to avoid crediting the wrong player. It checks for the interaction, the block change, and hunger increase before granting saturation.

• The add-on auto-detects if the engine natively supports saturation. If it does, the script stays out of the way. If not (current Bedrock), it uses dynamic properties as fallback. Either way it works the same and persists across sessions.

• Compatible with most add-ons unless they also modify health regeneration.

Pretty lightweight. Install it and the mechanic works in the background. Food actually matters again.
