Description

Revive Dinos: Dodo

Revive Dinos is a tech + genetics add-on where you excavate ancient fossils, sequence their DNA and bring an extinct species back to life. The first creature to return: the Dodo. Dig up bones, run a full biotech lab powered by your own energy grid, hatch an egg, and raise your very own flock.

Trailer

Overview

The gameplay is a linear progression from a raw fossil to a living dodo:

Fossil → DNA → Complete DNA → Biomass → Egg → Dodo

Every step uses a dedicated machine, and every machine runs on a shared energy network you build yourself.

The Fossil Dig Minigame

Fossilized Rocks generate naturally across the Overworld surface. To extract a fossil you can't just mine them, you have to excavate them properly:

  • Craft an Excavation Hammer and hit the rock on the correct highlighted face.
  • Hit the right face and the rock chips away, revealing the next spot to strike.
  • Hit the wrong face and the rock shatters, giving you nothing.
  • Finish the dig correctly and you're rewarded with 1 fossil.

Simply mining the rock (holding the button) drops nothing, so the minigame is the only way in.

Fossil Types

Skull • Tooth • Claw • Rib • Vertebra • Femur • Humerus • Tail • Mysterious Fragment

Building the Machines

Everything runs on energy, so first you build a power source, then the lab machines. All recipes use the crafting table.

Intermediate Components

Item Recipe (shaped)
Copper Coil (x4) 4 Copper Ingot + 1 Stick
Circuit Board 4 Redstone + 4 Copper Ingot + 1 Quartz
Energy Cell 4 Iron + 2 Redstone + 2 Copper + 1 Blaze Powder
Carvite (x4) 4 Coal + 4 Blaze Powder + 1 Magma Cream
Test Tube (x3) 5 Glass
Replication Enzyme 4 Nether Wart + 4 Blaze Powder + 1 Test Tube + 1 Glass Bottle
Excavation Hammer 5 Iron + 2 Stick

Energy System

  • Combustion Generator — burns fuel to make power. Burns wood, coal, blaze rods, lava… but Carvite (a synthetic fuel you craft) is the most efficient at 100 energy/tick.
  • Energy Battery — stores up to a huge reserve and keeps its charge when you break and replace it.
  • Energy Cable — connects everything. Energy enters machines from any of the 6 faces, and the whole grid is treated as one shared pool.

The network drains the generator first, then the battery as a reserve. Consumption is all-or-nothing: if there isn't enough power, the machine simply pauses without losing progress.

The Genetics Lab (Linear Progression)

Each machine has a custom in-game interface and an animated working state.

1. Genetic Extractor

Put a Fossil + a Test Tube inside. After ~10 seconds it produces Incomplete Dodo DNA. Every fossil type yields dodo DNA.

2. Gene Sequencer

DNA samples are unique, so you can't just stack them. Load 3 separate Incomplete DNA samples + 1 Replication Enzyme. After ~15 seconds you get 1 Complete Dodo DNA.

3. Biomass Synthesizer

Turns organic matter into Biomass. The richer the food, the higher the yield:

  • Basic crops/food → 1
  • Raw meat & fish → 2
  • Cooked / nutritious food → 3
  • Exotic items (golden apple, chorus fruit, turtle egg…) → 5

4. Incubator

The final step. Combine 1 Complete Dodo DNA + 8 Biomass. After ~60 seconds (the longest process in the addon) it produces a Dodo Egg.

Hatching & The Dodo

Place the Dodo Egg on the ground. It goes through visual hatching stages before a baby dodo is born.

Dodo Variants

The dodo comes in several color variants that spawn randomly:

Dodo Features

  • Rideable — hop on and steer it with WASD.
  • Slow falling — like a chicken, it drifts gently down instead of taking fall damage.
  • Breedable — feed two adults with wheat, beetroot, melon or pumpkin seeds to make more.
  • Custom sounds and walk sounds for a lively, characterful mob.

Other information

  • This addon does not remove your world achievements.
  • More species are planned, the whole lab was built to be expanded.
