RB Challenge - Random Drops
Every block you break drops something unexpected. Break a block in Survival and get a random item instead of its normal drop, with a world seed that decides exactly what each block gives you.
Overview
RB Challenge - Random Drops turns Minecraft into a randomizer challenge. Whenever you break a block in Survival, the block's normal drop is replaced with a different item. Dirt might give you a saddle, oak logs might give you a trident, and stone might give you nothing you can use. The challenge is working out how to get what you need to progress.
By default, drops are seeded: with a given seed, each type of block always gives the same item. Once you learn what a block drops, it keeps dropping that, so you can plan around it, share your seed with friends, and race on the same world. Change the seed at any time to reshuffle everything. Prefer pure chaos? Switch to random mode and every single break rolls a brand new item.
Key Features
- Random Drops: Breaking a block gives a random item instead of the vanilla drop.
- Two Drop Modes: Choose seeded (each block type always drops the same item) or random (a new item on every break), and switch in game.
- Seeded Mapping: In seeded mode, each block type always drops the same item for a given seed. Break the same block twice and you get the same result.
- World Seed by Default: Uses your world's seed unless you choose a different one, so every world has its own unique mapping.
- Shareable Seeds: Set the same seed on two worlds to get the same drops, which is ideal for races and challenge runs.
- Seed and Mode Commands: Get, set, reset, or shuffle the seed, and switch the drop mode, all in game. No cheats required.
- Wide Item Pool: Drops can be almost any item in the game, including tools, armor, food, and rare items.
- Safe Pool: Items that would break a world are never handed out, such as bedrock, barriers, command blocks, structure blocks, light blocks, and spawn eggs.
- Normal Breaking Feel: Blocks break with their usual sound and particles, and tool durability is used as normal.
- Creative Mode Friendly: Creative mode is left alone and drops nothing, just like vanilla.
- Translatable: All chat messages use translation keys in the resource pack's language file.
How It Works
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Break a block (Survival) | The block breaks normally, but drops one random item instead |
| Break a block (Creative) | Normal vanilla behavior, no drops |
| Break the same block again | Seeded mode: drops the same item, as long as the seed is unchanged. Random mode: drops a new item |
| Change the seed | Every block type is reshuffled to a new item (seeded mode) |
Notes
- Drops are matched by block type. Oak logs and birch logs are different block types, so each has its own drop.
- Each break drops one item. Enchantments such as Fortune and Silk Touch do not change what drops.
- Vanilla block drops are turned off while the addon is active, so no other drops appear alongside the random one. This also affects drops from sources other than the player, such as explosions.
- A seed gives the same results as long as the game's item list stays the same. A Minecraft update that adds new items can change what a seed gives.
Drop Modes
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Seeded | Each block type always drops the same item, decided by the seed. This is the default. |
| Random | Every break rolls a new random item, so the same block can drop something different each time. |
The seed only matters in seeded mode. You can still change it while in random mode, and it takes effect when you switch back. The chosen mode is saved with the world.

All commands require the Game Directors permission level (the world owner or an operator). They work without enabling cheats.

shuffle, write down the new seed shown in chat. You can bring that exact mapping back later withset. - The seed is saved with the world, so it is still there after you quit and reload.
Compatibility and Technical Notes
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition: Built on the Minecraft Script API.
- Standalone: Does not require any other addon to function.
- Resource Pack: Include the resource pack with the behavior pack so chat messages display correctly.
- Game Rule: The addon turns off the
doTileDropsgame rule while it is active and restores it when it is disabled.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will a block always drop the same item?
A: In seeded mode (the default), yes. Each block type is tied to one item until you change the seed. In random mode, no: every break rolls a new item.
Q: How do I switch between random and seeded drops?
A: Run
/rb_crd:drops_mode randomor/rb_crd:drops_mode seeded. Run it with no argument to see the current mode.
Q: Can I get the same drops as a friend?
A: Yes. Both of you set the same seed with
/rb_crd:drops_seed set <seed>and you will get identical drops.
Q: Which seed is used by default?
A: Your world's own seed, unless a custom seed has been set. Use
resetto return to it.

Q: Why am I not getting drops in Creative mode?
A: Creative mode behaves like vanilla and drops nothing.
Q: Do I need cheats to change the seed or mode?
A: No. You only need to be the world owner or an operator.
