5.0: The Scroll update

This is an ambitious update that makes significant changes to Minecraft’s enchanting system, focusing on reducing the luck involved in enchanting and giving otherwise lesser used and weaker enchantments a chance to shine.

Alongside Enchanting, the 5.0 update also brings changes to weapon and tool balance, new tools and armor, and minor tweaks to inventory management. A significant amount of time was also devoted to polishing and improving the download page for Raid’s Stuff, making it easier to discover and understand the many features of this Addon.

New Feature: Scrolls

Scrolls are tiny, non-stackable treasures found in various structures throughout the world.

They can be used to turn books into Enchanted Books and are not consumed when crafting.

Each book has a specific Enchant and level that corresponds to the Enchanted Book it will create.

Higher level scrolls can be crafted using 4 lower level ones with the same enchantment (i.e 4 Sharpness IV scrolls make 1 Sharpness V one).

Occasionally a blank scroll will be found, which can be given any enchantment surrounding it and a corresponding item with diamonds in a crafting table.

Blank scrolls can also be obtained via villager trading. All librarians’ final level will trade for blank scrolls.

Vanilla Tweaks: Bundles, Enchanting table, structure loot, fishing, and librarian trades

-Bundles now are not lost upon death.

-The Enchanting Table has been moved from a mid-game to a late-game item, now requiring End Rods to craft.

-Structures will now include scrolls alongside enchanted books in their loot.

-Fishing will no longer give mending books, but will give scrolls.

-The Librarian will no longer give Enchanted Books, and their final mastery level now requires players to trade an enchantment table to access. This is to limit access to easy access to blank scrolls until after The End.

New Tools: Hammers and Scythes

I am not the first to add Hammers to the game and I certainly won’t be the last. Hammer mod and addons have existed in various forms for years now, and as always, they mine in a 3x3 pattern. What makes Raid’s Stuff’s Hammer different is its insane attack damage and AOE attacks. As always, all new tools also double up as weapons (I can’t help myself, I love making weapons) and the Hammer is no exception. Attacking a monster will not only damage and slow it, but also all other monsters surrounding it. Unlike the other custom tools, Hammers lack a right click ability. Instead, simply attacking activates its special effects. Because of their high damage and slowing effects, Hammers have an attack cooldown like Spears. An Attack Cooldown differs from Recovery Speed in that players literally cannot attack with the weapon at all instead of merely being unable to deal damage, though Hammers still do have a Recovery Speed.

Hammers are not meant to be a direct upgrade from Pickaxes. Though they have much faster Mining Speeds and a 3x3 mining pattern, Their Recovery Speed makes them overall slower than pickaxes in the long run. Players must choose between a cheaper and faster, but more tedious mining tool, or an expensive, slower one that mines more blocks at once and doubles as a high attack damage weapon.

Scythe’s are technically a farming tool, but in all honesty, I just wanted to make a cool weapon. It will mine crops in a 5x2 pattern, making farming much quicker and easier. As a weapon, what makes the Scythe unique is its absolutely huge swing range. Unlike the Battleaxe, which swings in a 3 block pattern, the Scythe swings in a 5 block pattern, allowing for a much wider range.

Complete rework to the “Speed” stat.

Attack Speed, Mining Speed, and Recovery Speed have now all been rolled into one “Recovery Speed” Stat, and “Mining Efficiency" is now simply called Mining Speed to avoid confusion. Previously, these custom stats were very confusing to keep track of and did not do what one would initially expect.

Now, Recovery Speed is calculated as the sum of all the individual speeds of a player's equipped and held items. (i.e if my helmet has a speed of 0.1, my held weapon a speed of -1.0, and my chestplate a speed of 0.5, my total recovery speed would be -0.4).

A negative Recovery Speed will result in the player losing stamina (getting the hunger effect) when hit, getting mining fatigue when mining, and weakness after attacking.

On the other hand, A positive Recovery Speed will result in the player gaining stamina (getting the saturation effect) when getting hit, attacking, or mining, and passively regain stamina faster too.

In adjusting to these changes, Redstone Infused Gear now only adds +0.1 to recovery speed rather than +1. Additionally, Katanas and wooden armor now have a natural +0.1 Recovery Speed.

Restructuring of Item Stats

The Item Stats are a little confusing to navigate, so I simplified them. Now they appear like this:

Armor:

+Armor

+/-Recovery Speed

+Passive (Previously called Bonus Ability)

Durability

Tools:

+Attack Damage

+Mining Speed (Previously called Mining Efficiency)

+Mining Pattern

+/-Recovery Speed

+Ability Damage

+Ability Range

+Ability Pattern

-Ability Cooldown

+Passive (Previously called Bonus Ability)

Durability

Some key features are the inclusion of Ability and Mining Patterns. The Ability Pattern shows how an ability is actually hitting in the world, since the range stat only tells how far away the ability will activate, not what that activation will look like. The Mining Pattern shows how blocks will be destroyed using the tool.

Halberd Changes

The Halberd is considerably stronger than the axe. I nerfed its mining pattern to only two blocks and made it take sword enchants instead axe ones, so no more efficiency. I also changed its crafting recipe to make it more expensive.

To compensate for these nerfs, the Halberd’s Jab is now much easier to use and can hit multiple targets again. Overall the Halberd now leans more toward a weapon rather than an axe.

Goblins Changes

-Goblins no longer attack players wearing armor

-Goblins give more blocks when bartering

-Wooden Armor’s durability has been drastically increased

Mimic Changes

-Mimics can now be damaged in their block form

-Mimics health has been decreased from 20 to 16

-Mimics no longer automatically turn into monsters when approached

-Mimics can now mimic stone and other ores.

Food Changes

-Eating heavy food no longer slows you down and eating raw food now poisons you

-Mushroom and Beetroot Soups now completely reset your health.

-Cookies now give a short burst of regeneration instead of a prolonged lesser one.

Infused Gear changes

-Amethyst infused gear no longer gives +1 Mining Speed

-Lapis infused gear now gives a new passive: xp when used

-Redstone infused gear now gives -50% ability/attack cooldown

Emerald Gear Changes

-Emerald Gear no longer gives xp when used

Looking Into the Future:

This update is ambitious and took forever to make. When I first began reworking Enchanting, I tried to completely re-create the Enchanting Table from the ground up, and the version I made was not very good. It was a struggle to come up with a new system. The idea came to simply move the table up in the game's progression and focus on the time players have without it—the time in between beginning the world and fighting the Ender Dragon. If enchantments like sharpness and efficiency completely break the balance of the weapons in Raid’s Stuff, they should be in the late-game where players are expected to be really strong.

I still have a lot of ideas that I was not able to put in this update. I want to expand on villager trading and fishing. I want to add more things to craft gear with. I want to expand on some of the smaller features in Raid’s Stuff like Staffs and Spells like I did with Item stats in this update. Sadly, though, I need to wait on implementing them because A) I have classes I need to pass, and B) I have to begin work on Raid Arena II again. It is a real shame that the world got corrupted, but it did give me a chance to take a step back and catch the publicly released version of Raid’s Stuff up with the version I have. And more importantly, update the description page for it too.
