Play Cam
What's new
Changelog
All notable changes to Play Cam v2 are documented here.
[1.1.0]
Added
Timelines & Keyframes
- Create multiple named timelines, each holding up to 20 keyframes (position + rotation).
- Camera playback uses a centripetal Catmull-Rom spline with arc-length (constant-speed) parametrization for smooth, natural motion between keyframes.
- Rename, redo (reposition), insert-before, or replace any individual keyframe.
- Adjust total animation duration per timeline, and toggle looping.
- Duplicate an existing timeline with one click (auto-generates a non-conflicting name).
- The currently active timeline is now marked in the timeline list.
Flycam
- Detach the camera from your body to fly freely and place keyframes without moving your character.
- Built-in collision avoidance (multi-ray check) prevents the camera from clipping through walls, floors, or ceilings while flying.
- Return to first-person by crouching (instant) or by approaching your own body (5-second countdown shown on the action bar).
- Works for adding new points, inserting mid-sequence, or replacing an existing keyframe.
- Optional confirmation prompt before entering Flycam — can be permanently dismissed per timeline, or re-enabled from settings.
Visual Keyframe Markers & Route
- Numbered particle markers show every keyframe's position at a glance.
- A live route trail connects the keyframes, following the exact same spline used during playback.
- Markers automatically hide during playback and reappear when stopped.
Playback Controls
- Pause, resume, or stop a running animation at any time.
- Adjust playback options live, mid-animation, without restarting:
- Loop the animation indefinitely.
- Relative camera controls (move using WASD relative to the camera).
- Look at Player — override recorded rotation to always aim at your feet in real time.
- Hide on Camera — turn invisible for the duration of playback (now correctly persists through looped playback).
Camera Presets
- Static — locks the camera exactly where you're looking the moment you activate it.
- Selfie — a handheld-style camera glued to your point of view, matching your look direction 1:1 with no smoothing.
- 360° Orbit — continuously circles around you.
- North / East / South / West — fixed cinematic vantage points.
- Chase Cam — classic third-person follow camera.
- Handheld — follow camera with organic, documentary-style shake.
- Pendulum — sweeps side to side across an adjustable arc instead of a full spin.
- Aerial View — wide, high establishing-shot orbit.
- Every applicable preset supports a "relative to player" mode, adjustable height/distance/speed (remembered between uses), and its own "relative camera controls" toggle.
- Collision avoidance now also applies to presets (Orbit, Fixed, Chase, Handheld, Pendulum, Aerial), not just Flycam.
Crafting
- The camera item can now be crafted (iron ingots, glass panes, redstone, and an amethyst shard, in a camera-shaped pattern) instead of only being obtainable via creative/commands.
Localization
- Fully translated into Portuguese (BR), English (US), Russian, and Spanish (MX).
Safety & Reliability
- Full recovery from disconnecting, dying, or the world being closed mid-animation, mid-flycam, or mid-preset — nothing gets stuck.
- The activator item is protected from being dropped during playback and is returned automatically if lost on death.
- A confirmation step now guards against accidentally wiping an entire timeline ("Reset").
Changed
- Rebranded from Play Mod to Play Cam.
- Keyframe numbering shown to the player is now 1-indexed ("Keyframe 1", "Keyframe 2"...) to match the numbered markers, instead of starting at 0.
- Sound effects for keyframe placement and validation errors now play at the keyframe's position instead of the player's body — audible correctly even while far away in Flycam.
- Per-update camera easing tuned for smoother motion between spline updates.
Fixed
- Fixed camera getting stuck mid-air instead of returning to first-person when exiting Flycam via inserting/replacing a keyframe, or when stopping a live camera preset.
- Fixed the keyframe limit allowing a 21st keyframe to be created, causing duplicate "20" markers.
- Fixed the "Hide on Camera" invisibility effect expiring mid-loop instead of lasting the entire looped animation.
- Fixed live camera presets not keeping the player centered on screen while orbiting.
- Fixed the Handheld preset showing the player's back instead of their front.
