Description

MURMUR overhauls the atmosphere of Minecraft Bedrock Edition by introducing an unpolished, eerie "ambient mind layer" to the creatures populating your world. Mobs no longer wander in absolute silence; instead, they leak fragmented, imperfect thoughts directly into local text chat, creating the chilling illusion of background mental processes running just out of sight.

Built entirely around an uncanny, "disconnected" philosophy, MURMUR ensures mobs do not offer clean exposition or polished NPC dialogue. Instead, they mutter broken lines, state mundane half-thoughts, and completely misunderstand the events unfolding around them.

How It Works

  • Persistent Custom Identities: The moment an unnamed Villager, Pillager, Piglin, or Witch is detected near a player, MURMUR automatically and permanently assigns them a name from a vast, thematic pool (like Slood, Grimk, or Baba). This turns disposable, identical mobs into unique entities you can track across your world.

  • Themed Cognitive Profiles: Every supported mob group possesses a distinct mental model that dictates their speech style:

    • Villagers: Confused, forgetful, and mildly paranoid. They wonder if they already ate, suspect the wheat grows faster when watched, or run broken, disjointed conversations with each other.

    • Pillagers & Illagers: Cruel, blunt, and overconfident raiders who demand territory, threaten your survival, and mock the weak.

    • Witches: Cold, clinical, and eerie pragmatists who treat encounters as detached chemical or biological experiments.

    • Piglins: Paranoid, greedy scavengers obsessed with gold locations, structural safety, and hunting metrics.

    • Endermen: Reality-glitched entities leaking broken, spatial awareness fragments ("I remember falling upward").

    • Blazes & Wither Skeletons: Demonic declarations of eternal flame vs. residual, mind-free reactive rage.

  • Dynamic Inventory Integration: Villagers don't just speak randomly—the script scans their actual inventory slots. If a villager is carrying wheat, bread, or emeralds, their dialogue pools shift dynamically to comment on exactly what they are holding.

  • Contextual Death Reactions: If a mob dies near its peers, nearby entities will comment on the death based on their alignment. Villagers will interpret it poorly ("Maybe he forgot to wake up..."), while Pillagers coldly dismiss it ("One less").

Under the Hood (Performance & Immersion Features)

  • Zero Scripting Tags: Standard Bedrock scripting commands force an ugly [Scripting] prefix into chat. MURMUR utilizes raw JSON text-routing to bypass this entirely, ensuring all chat indicators look like clean, genuine mob chat (<Slood> "wot?").

  • Distributed Frame Processing: Built specifically to guarantee absolute performance compatibility with lower-end hardware and mobile devices. The custom distributed queue processes only three entities per frame cycle instead of executing massive, lag-inducing global radius bursts.

  • Strict Proximity & Render Culling: Mobs will only speak if a player is within an immediate 8-block listening radius. This entirely eliminates "phantom chat" from entities loaded far away or across unrendered chunks.

  • State-Change Awareness: Features custom mutation gates. For example, if a Piglin converts into a Zombified Piglin, its mental script immediately locks down and goes silent, preventing dead brains from talking.
