v0.3.0 Major Update! (1.21.130+)

 

After 10 months of no updates and 1.5 years without a major update, a new update for Morphing Bracelet has finally been released! This update has been in development since July 2024, with a full rework of the resource pack. New content has also been added, including a replacement for the Scroll of Souls and, interestingly, a brand-new type of Morphing Bracelet 👀. New mobs like the Creaking and the Copper Golem aren't included in this update yet (they'll be coming in future updates). The full changelog can be read below!

 

Resource Pack Rework!

The majority of the files in the resource pack have been completely reworked, including animations and models of the mobs that players can morph into. This overhaul mainly focuses on the technical side of the add-on, as the previous code was messy and difficult to maintain. While this means there won't be many major gameplay changes, you might notice a few subtle improvements here and there as a result of the update. These noticeable changes include, but are not limited to:

  • Capes and character creator skins now render and work with this add-on installed.
  • Every mob now has a proper sleeping animation.
  • The crawling animations of many mobs now work properly.
  • Gliding animations of many mobs have been correctly adjusted and fixed. This includes the fish gliding animation for those who want to see a flying fish.
  • Added missing animations such as the crossbow charging animation and the goat horn blowing animation to humanoid mobs.
  • Fixed animations that were glitchy when players used items like the goat horn.
  • Particle effects present in certain mobs (E.g. Phantoms and Dolphins) are now visible on morphed players.
  • Resource pack's content log errors that popped up when loading the world have been resolved and no longer appear.
  • First-person arms have been temporarily removed, as this is another complicated system to work on. They will be coming back in the future though.
  • The swimming animation of the Drowned form, which was broken for four years, has finally been fixed.
  • The swimming animation of the Squid form has been drastically improved.
  • The Slime and Magma Cube forms now have a squeezing animation.
  • The Iron Sword item now visually shows up on the Vex's hand.
  • The Frog form now does the croaking animation.
  • The Frog's tongue attack now moves depending on the hit direction.
  • Evoker casting particles have been added when summoning fangs.
  • Guardian and Elder Guardian forms' eyes now move dynamically.
  • Ender Dragon form's wing flapping sound is now fully in-sync with the animation.
  • And much, much more!

 

Experimental Toggles!

  • 'Beta APIs' toggle is no longer required to be enabled anymore! Finally, after almost five years of being under this experimental toggle, we're finally out of it.
    • With the release of the toggle, the scripts are now also gradually being reworked to match the latest standards (just like the Resource Pack) and will receive significant changes every add-on update. This is to improve the performance, code quality, structures, and maintainability of the scripts.
  • 'Minecraft Education Features' toggle is also no longer required to be enabled! Mob flight now uses a completely different system as it can't use the Education Edition's survival flying mechanic anymore.
    • The new flight system is not perfect yet. However, it will receive updates in the future to support different kinds of flight movements for several flying mobs.

 

Morphing Mechanics

  • Added a squeezing animation when players morph into different mobs!
  • The morphing cloud particles have been tweaked for more realistic and accurate movement. The number and size of the particles have also been adjusted to improve their look.
  • The texture of the soul orb particle has been updated to a higher resolution, which gives it a more realistic glowing appearance.
  • The color of the soul orb particle has been adjusted to better match Minecraft's soul colors.

 

Morphing Bracelet Item

  • The Morphing Bracelet item has received a new look and design! The sprite and model texture have been redesigned to the new style.
  • The bracelet model is now only visible if it's equipped on the right arm.
  • Obtaining the Soul Glass block now unlocks Morphing Bracelet's recipe in the recipe book.

 

[NEW!] Soul in a Bottle!

  • The Scroll of Souls item has now been fully replaced by a new item, Soul in a Bottle! It functions almost the same, with the only difference being that the soul is drinkable now 😳.
  • Can be crafted using 3 Soul Glass blocks arranged in the same shape as the glass bottle recipe. This crafts a Soul Glass Bottle, the empty variant that can be filled with the soul of the mob the player is currently morphed into.
  • Existing Scroll of Souls items in all worlds will be automatically replaced with the new item.
  • The tooltip that tells players which mob the item contains now displays the localized mob's name instead of its morph ID.

 

[NEW!] Metamorphing Bracelet!

  • A new type of Morphing Bracelet that is currently only obtainable via commands due to performance issues and potential world crashes.
  • This is an item many players have been hoping for. It's a bracelet that contains all mob forms and their variants.
  • It can be used infinitely as it has no durability.
  • Many players have said it resembles a watch from a certain piece of media… (That was completely unintentional, I promise 🙏)

 

Updated to the Latest Version

These changes are based on updates to vanilla Minecraft versions 1.21.10 through 1.21.130. They were implemented to reflect game changes from the past year and a half (since the add-on didn't receive any updates during that time) and to keep everything in sync with the latest Minecraft updates.

  • The new Spring To Life farm animal variants have been added to the Cow, Chicken, and Pig forms!
  • Mooshroom form's model and texture have been updated.
  • Zombie Horse form has been updated to match the new update in Mounts of Mayhem.
  • Illager forms (such as Evokers and Vindicators) are now scared of the Creaking mob.
  • Snow Golem form can now survive in warm and hot biomes while under the Fire Resistance effect.
  • The Bee form can now pollinate open eyeblossom, wildflowers, and cactus flower blocks.
  • Bee form now drowns underwater instantly to match the vanilla mob.
  • Fox form now has 5 hearts instead of 10 hearts.
  • The Creeper form no longer flashes solid white when exploding to match the vanilla mob.
  • Blaze's sound distance has been increased from 16 to 32 blocks.
  • Squid and Glow Squid forms' collision boxes have been updated to match their vanilla mob counterparts.
  • Camel form now starts taking fall damage from 4 blocks higher, matching the recent vanilla change.
  • Phantom and Wither forms can no longer drown in water.

 

Enderman Form

  • Enderman's item ability has been renamed from 'Teleportation' to 'Teleporter'.
  • The Teleporter item now has a custom item texture. It resembles the "purple" version of the original Eye of Ender texture.
  • The Teleporter's teleportation mechanic has been improved to also account for the player's collision box when teleporting to walls and ceilings.
  • Added a screen fade visual effect when teleporting as an Enderman.

 

Bee Form

  • The bee form's pollinating ability is now functional once again! Morphed players can now collect pollen and store it in beehives again.
  • The stinging ability now has a clear indicator that the player is dying after losing their stinger.
  • Added a custom death message when a morphed bee dies after losing their stinger.

 

Ender Dragon Form

  • Players morphed into this form now have the ability to glide vertically without the use of rockets (move up and down without gravity restrictions).
  • Ender Dragon's wing flapping sound is now quieter in first-person mode.
  • The Dragon Fireball item cooldown has been increased from 0.67 seconds to 2.5 seconds.

 

Minor Gameplay Changes

  • Mobs with the Slow Falling ability can now glide properly with an elytra.
  • Custom items with a 0.67-second use cooldown have been reduced to 0.5 seconds (excluding the Dragon Fireball item, which was changed to 2.5 seconds).
  • Sheep form's grazing ability will no longer trigger automatically if the player is under a slab and will now only activate while the player is holding the sneak input.
  • The Breeze form now shoots the same wind charge entity as the vanilla Breeze mob. This allows players to fire wind charges with greater range and stronger knockback while morphed into a Breeze.
  • The Shulker form now has a solid box collision, just like the vanilla Shulker mob.
  • The Strider form's movement speed out of lava has been further slowed down.
  • Pig and Strider forms' saddled variants have been fully removed.
  • Evoker form's fang-summoning ability cooldown has been increased from 2 seconds to 5 seconds to match the vanilla mob.
  • Players morphed into an Armadillo can now roll up while in a one-block space.

 

Visual Changes

  • Spider, Enderman, Cave Spider, and Phantom forms now render their eyes when invisible.
  • The Shulker form is now visible even when it has the Invisibility effect. This is intentional to match the vanilla Shulker mob.
  • The icons for the Goat and its variants are now centered in the Morph Menu.
  • The icons for the Screaming Goat and its baby variant are now visually different from the normal variants. A glowing aura has been added to indicate their rarity.
  • Vibrant Visuals has been temporarily disabled. It will be added back in the future once the add-on's custom textures fully support this graphics mode.

 

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where enabling the paperdoll caused the Creeper swelling animation and Horse rearing animation to play too fast.
  • Fixed a bug where players could still access the Morph Menu while dead, which could be exploited to duplicate the bracelet.

 

Pack Changes

  • The behavior pack is now a dependency of the resource pack. This means installing the resource pack will now automatically install the behavior pack as well.
  • The resource pack is now exclusive to worlds and can no longer be used as a global resource pack.
  • The resource and behavior packs' names and descriptions are now localized, but currently only support English.

 

Namespace Changes

The namespace this add-on originally used was "morph" (e.g. /give @s morph:soul_glass). This is because the add-on wasn't originally called Morphing Bracelet in its first release back in May 2021 (it had a very generic name: Morph Addon). Since the original namespace was too broad, I'm now gradually migrating the add-on's namespace from "morph" to "morphing_bracelet". So far, items, custom components, and certain particles have been migrated to the new namespace. As the add-on continues to be updated, more content will be migrated, such as blocks and entity events.
